Remind me again why any team wants Zach Hyman until he is 37?
This is franking madness. - Atomic Wedgie
I'll give Zach 3 years. Then the wheels will start falling off. Leafs walking away was the smart thing to do. I hated when Detroit lost Marty Lapointe to UFA. But I also knew he wasn't worth 5 mil a season.
I don't blame Hyman for chasing the money. He's been underpaid his entire career. Why should he take a discount? It's not like Matthews, Nylander or Marner did. |

Don't know how true it is, but read that Hyman would have accepted less what Edmonton is offering to stay in Toronto. Problem is, we still couldn't afford $5M per season on him - PatC80
An equally big problem is he is not worth $5M. |

That’s assuming Leafs were prepared to offer term - Canada Cup
I have to be honest - I love Hyman, but I don't think I'd do more than 4 years - maybe 5 because he's put so much into his game - and no more than $5m - and would have preferred to keep it at $4.5.
If you're Zack Hyman, you take this offer from Edmonton all day every day. It's not about loyalty or anything either. How do you ignore that offer? |

Oilers and Zach Hyman Have a Deal. Will Toronto Match? Edmonton and Toronto are mastering in "miscalculations" today. The Oilers losing Larsson yesterday was a major blow on all levels to an organization that wants to continue to step forward. Edmonton will need to no find at least 2 top 4 D-men to do that now. Zach Hyman is still a great fit for the Oilers for sure, and Toronto allowed Hyman to test the market and talk to Edmonton. Hyman wants to play with his buds on the Leafs and the belief is he will give Toronto one last chance...however once a player feels appreciated, like Edmonton has made Hyman feel, things get dicey.

Sadly, the Macron tweet is fake.
Apparently it was said by an Italian journalist, and somebody reworked it.
Macron does not have any daughters.
"I no longer have any intention of sacrificing my life, my time, my freedom and the adolescence of my daughters, as well as their right to study properly, for those who refuse to be vaccinated," reads the translated quote, which was lifted off the Italian journalist's post.
"This time you stay at home, not us," the post reads. |

I don't do a franking penny over $4M, and even that is too much. Give him $3.5M X 5 with a full NMC.
FFS, the guy makes $20M a year from video games - and that success is largely based upon his marketability as a Leafs player.
I really hope he enjoys Edmonton.
For the next seven years. |

I think they should have resigned him last offseason of traded him then. Its the same way I feel about Reilly this offseason. The Leafs cant afford to lose players over and over. They got worse so far not better. - Archaic
It completely depends on the situation. If you are in a strong playoff position, it’s crazy to unload an member of your team. If not, dump away. If there was a trade to get someone equally useful as Hyman the off-season prior, ok trade. Otherwise keep him for your run. It’s cheaper than bringing in Foligno which everybody loved.
The Leafs got full value out if their contract with Hyman.

Prorated, Hyman has scored 15, 24, 34 and 29 goals based on an 82 game season. Not many 30 goal scorers aren't worth more than $3.5M.
He's going to break down more and we all know it. He's on the wrong side of his peak, so the question is - where is his decline break?
But to think he's not worth $4.5m when he helped elevate every line he was placed on and gave the most honest and sincere effort on the team for the past 5 years is a bit unfair. He's just not worth it for more than 4 or 5 years!

I know thats way too much to pay Hyman, but it really sucks losing him like this. I thought maybe for once a player would choose to take a bit less money to stay. Seriously this happens with so many other teams, but never the Leafs. Frustrating. - Archaic

He'll be terrific on a line with McDavid and Draisaitl for a few years.

The Leafs got well above value on Hyman's contract.
Now we can't afford him at full value. |

We all like Hyman. He termed himself out. If someone is giving him 7 or 8 years with value that considers all of those years higher than his projected AAV on a shorter term deal, he'd be a fool not to go. And we'd be fools to match. |
