Suddenly Stud Hallander? I can’t believe we lost him. And the 2023 draft looks very good in the 7th
- Canada Cup

not at all, not the way the leafs draft.
As of Hallander, meh...I wasnt expecting much from him. But still an asset all the same.

Servalli is leaking the entire Expansion Draft. 🤣

Morgan Geekie from Carolina. Donskoi from the Avs.

He must have planted a microphone in there. It’s great though.

seeing a few people who suggest Seattle maybe would have taken Dermott in some protection formats - Elliotte Friedman said on SN590 (I think) a few days ago that Dermott and Hakstol butted heads a bit so he would have been surprised if Dermott was taken.

Someone from the Kraken or the league may legitimately get fired over this.

I don't remember this happening with the Vegas draft - but I could be wrong.

Trump went to the military and wanted to execute the person who leaked the story he was hiding in the bunker. Can Gary have someone executed?

Maybe, but if they went the 7-3-1 route, who else would Seattle take?
- bobbyisno1

I think they're pretty cornered into Engvall at that point. Dermott at 1.5 to not make their lineup either doesn't work.

Perhaps they even look at Simmonds or another sub 1 million contract that expires year end.

As per the latest edition of the playoffs, it's pretty clear Price matters to that franchise... A lot. Putting him out there to risk losing him for nothing is a huge gamble for them. Making it out unscathed is a win.
- joel878

It was a good play by Bergy.

They would take Holl, they are allowed to trade him.
I'm not big Holl supporter so I wouldn't have cared.

Remember how bad Ottawa and Tampa were? They really got screwed by the NHL. I get it. You pay 650 mil you should get a fair shake. But man what a difference!
- gergeswillems

Yeah, it'd be an interesting exercise speculating what those teams might have been had the rules been in place back then. Granted, no salary cap was in place at that time, but I don't think there were too many teams who were wildly different in terms of salary than others (I could be wrong).

I think its fair to say, most players and coaches butt heads over something at one point or another.
Doesnt mean much

I bet he hasn't slept in awhile... Had he lost price for nothing the city of Montreal would have demanded his head on a spike.

But credit where credit is due... They lost Cale Fleury out of the deal and that's it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes and it's been reported they are (frank)ing that up too, demanding first rounders in exchange minimum for taking a player to trade on.

No one is paying 1st rounders for Justin Holl.

I thought Holl played well at the beginning of the season, much like the year before. Then fell right off....much like the year before.
I honestly feel he would be better on the 3rd line.
But what can you do?

Ok. I guess actually getting the job done is less important than everyone’s aesthetic sensibilities.
- Canada Cup

I don't think he "gets the job done". I think his play regressed back to mediocre as the season progressed and that Muzzin largely propped him up.

I don't know why you, and others, are so married to him or worried about spending an extra 1.5-2M on the backend rather than adding that to the forward group.

I think the aesthetic abilities of his contract are clouding the objective sensibilities of his actual play later in the season.

The Leafs can and should do better than Justin Holl.

Also, wouldn't it be fun if we didn't have Marner's ridiculous contract anchoring this team by a few mil and forcing us to accept Holl in our Top 4?

He's a big that plays small, if only he could learn to crosscheck people in the face.

I disagree and Dubas probably knows.

He ran the D the last two years and have had constant conversations with him.

- Santo_44

Yea but are we really that concerned with losing Holl? It's embarrassing. We have Dermott who could play with Muzzin, liljegren in the minors or other options. I can't believe we didn't protect 7 forwards and trade kerfoot who would have more value than Holl on the market.

I wonder if the protection list is by committee.
Otherwise we have to fire them all.

IF the leafs didnt have 40m tied up in 4 forwards, I dont believe Holl would be in the top 6.. he'd be the 7th/8th dman.

The Leafs prospect pool is pretty barren. Do you feel like Kerfoot or McCann is really an answer that pushes the needle? Do we really need either of those guys or do we need an actual 3C more (I think, yes).

I think Dubas galaxy brained this one.

I'm not losing sleep over losing Hallander but I just don't see why we had to make any move.
