All those same people have spent the replacement costs a dozen times already on other things - power forwards, new bottom 6 guys, goalies.

I’m just saying pick your shots

- Canada Cup

"you miss 100% of the shots you dont take...and the leafs never miss a shot unlike the Islander cause Lou and everyone sucks forever."

I believe it was roger who said that.

I’ll pick Hamilton

If we’re paying guys, they might as well be playing big mins.

If you’re only worth $2m you shouldn’t be playing 21 mins/night

Something like that, I’m just rambling.

Oh trade everyone then, lets not look at each situation individually.

All 1st round exits? Trade Matthews he doesn't work.

- Santo_44

Done.
that's real change.

Sounds like the three goaltenders selected by #SeaKraken will be Chris Driedger (FLA), Vitek Vanecek (WSH) and Joey Daccord (OTT).

Several first round exits.
results arent good.

Why does keeping Holl mean status quo? It just means making the changes in other areas. I never understand this response

His stay was short-lived in Toronto. The #SeaKraken will be selecting Jared McCann from the #Leafs.

The end result: Toronto traded prospect Filip Hallander and a 7th round pick to Pittsburgh to essentially protect their roster from Seattle.

What a waste....

Looks like we're running back the exact same team again next season.. Game 7 losses in round 1 can become fun I guess

Unfortunate.

Ok. So let's trade Kerfoot for more than Hallander and a 7th and we can put this entire expansion nightmare to bed as a net win.

It's interesting in that they felt they were giving Vegas a shot at legitimacy without making them a top tier team. It's like no one considered that having a top-6 comprised of top-4 defensemen was better than most teams in the league who only had 3 top-4 defensemen to begin with or left on their roster. There's usually at least one or two top pairing defensemen available due to cap considerations.

Every forward you draft is a top-9 candidate or possibly better if there's cap considerations that you don't face.

Every goalie you draft is at least a 1B or better if there's considerations that you don't face.

Mathematically if you assume that every team is the same, and every team protects the exact same calibre of player, then the new expansion team won't be as good as the any given team in the league based on these rules. But if you factor in variation, contracts, cap, inaccurate assessment and opportunity/mistakes - the advantage weighs heavily in the the favour of the expansion team to be above average.

- Monkeypunk

The expansion deal was struck before the cap flattened wasn’t it? I wonder if this was a factor.

At least let them get past UFA day before we start declaring nothing has changed.

Mainly because we are also keeping Kerfoot, Spezza, Simmonds. If the Leafs re-sign Andersen and Hyman, nothing's changed at all..

Bringing up someone like Joey Anderson is not a real change

Seravalli is either really nailing some inside sources or will be looking for new work tomorrow

There was a lot of intrigue about whether #SeaKraken would be tempted to take one of the high-priced players the #Flyers dangled.

Hearing the selection was a bit of a surprise: Carsen Twarynski.

Can honestly say I didn't see him plucked in many mock drafts.

Did they take any salary at all?

I mean, from this side of the fence... It looks like Francis has (frank)ed this up so bad it's crazy.

If Seravalli is right and the Kraken do take McCann. We essentially lost McCann, Hallander and a 7th just to protect Kerfoot. So why trade him now?

Grab any cheap player you want and fling him up on line 1...they should be fine if the can skate and have a little weight for the board game.
