Trade for a cheap Dman. - Fakepartofme
Maybe, Dubas likes Holl more then analytics it seems. 🤷🏻♂️
Can’t fault him, since most of the stats depend who you play with, who you play against, where you start, score, etc etc. |

Trading him only gives you the cap space if it's for a picks or prospects.
They could have gotten all the cap space and kept a pick and a prospect, seems weird to me that's all. - bobbyisno1
You still need to replace him after he’s taken, no?

What I don't get is how Holl has turned into some kind of unicorn Top 4 D who is cheap and effective to some on these boards.
I strongly believe he is one of those things and it ain't the latter.
Holl's play seemed to slip as the season progressed and as opponents started to tighten up their game.
Your thoughts regarding the potential 3.2M we could use to spend on a superior Top 4 defender (Oleksiak?) is very well stated.
We're putting a lot of faith in Holl and I think a lot of if it has to do with Muzzin carrying that pairing -and- falling in love with Holl's contract. - mjones242
I think it's very obvious what Holl is by now. Two years in a row it's been the same story, decent start... Predictable fade. Results are mostly positive, for 2 million its not the worst thing in the world.
To me, if you want to go deeper it's just one of those areas you have to improve. It's not hard to find an extra 2 million to plug into that spot, and I don't believe it requires any massive sacrifices elsewhere.
If there's a team out there who actually believes Holl is a legit top 4 D that only costs 2 million (like some on here do), then let them pay whatever that's worth in a trade. We can upgrade that spot and use those assets just fine. 👍 |

Dvorak, Jarnkrok by trade
Stastny, Bonino, Getzlaf, Bozak by FA
there are options. Probably some surprise options as well. |

How much cap space will the Leafs have?
Kerfoot 3.5
Hyman2.5?
Freddy 5
Simmonds 600k
Thats a fair chunk to do some replacing. |

You don't think Kerfoot and his 1.25M salary per year the next 2 years isnt more valuable? I'd disagree and Dubas making this trade is a good indicator that this is true.
Kerfoot for Kuemper 50% salary retained. ARZ save a lot of money over 2 years and get a higher cap hit to keep them above the floor.
If this trade happens this move would not be possible without the McCanns trade.
Kuemper actual money in 50% retained=3.25M
Kerfoot=700K, 1.9M next season
They gain 6.750M in cap this season, 3.5M next season - Santo_44
Campbell seems to have a bad groin, and Kuemper seems injury prone..not sure I want to see the Leafs trying to win a cup with the possibility of the goalie being Hutch.

Chris Johnston on SN590 says Seattle asking huge prices if teams want to trade for a player they select from another team. Told teams that if they want them to select and trade Killorn it would cost two 1sts.

Yes, thank you.
The who to protect part is the entire debate, everyone will have a different opinion and all angles at that point have their own merit.
I would argue that resorting to FA is more than likely not going to result in better value than your decision on who to protect could, a lot of bloated numbers on the open market. - joel878
I guess taking it one step further the debate becomes do you like the idea of filling Holl's spot in FA better than filling in Kerfoots?
Larsson at 4M is probably a pretty fair example of the cost on the blueline but it means 2M less to spend on those middle six forwards they need.
Tough call. But forwards seemed to be going pretty cheap last off season - not sure if that'll continue. |

Okay but you get the point.
There are options with trading Kerfoot...specifically Arizona who will struggle to stay above the cap floor the next few seasons. |

They have 6.4 million as of today, and will more than likely shed at least 3 million tonight. |

I wonder if Johnson only waived for certain teams?
Like who on the planet earth would choose Detroit as home base? - Garnie
That's the tough part. Johnson has a no trade clause. Why waive for Detroit? JBB might be stuck with TJ and have to trade Palat or Killorn. Killorn would be a great target for the Leafs. Problem is both Palat and Killorn also have NTC's. |

Might as well keep Hyman |

Let me know the player and cap and then I can decide I guess.
We added McCann so there goes 2.5? Still need 1w - hopefully a decent goalie as who knows what Campbell will do, he did only play 22 games in a weird division and has a wonky groin. |

Valid point. For me, yes. The second pair is a lot more critical of a position when allocating money, and I trust a Larsson when push comes to shove a lot more than I trust a Holl.
If you're purely going on that tradeoff alone without any further cap considerations, that means Engvall becomes your 3C over Kerfoot. And yeah... I like Engvall and Larsson more than I like Kerfoot and Holl.
But that's also prior to the remaining 8 (or so) million in cap space remaining being allocated.
To each their own. 🤷🏻♂️ |

Hyman hasn't won 2 Cups. I guess Dubas doesn't want players who've won Cups? Keep doing the Dubie Plan. It's going great. Maybe bring Jumbo Joke back. 👍 |

I just meant the cap hit we need to take on to replace him. I’m a leaf fan and money means zero to me....sure we can eat money and trade but it’s not like we have tons of cap space. |

Killorn at 2 x 4.5 is better than Hyman at 7 x 6 if the reports are accurate.
Although not if it'll cost you two firsts! |
