Besides the fact that losing their salary would have minimal impact and not help with anything that Lameriello wants to do. Having a hard time why some are having a hard time grasping this?

I’m thinking Lou made 7 & 12 available as maybe Francis wasn’t sure which he’d prefer so to give him time Lou made both available. Otherwise why make 12 available if Francis was willing to take 7? Nothing credible in my logic just my thoughts on it. Watch him take Bellows 😂😂

Multi lingual players could be very useful to expansion teams, since they never know where their next player hails from.

Could be, but I think Lou simply evaluated guys on a best value/cap hit basis.

St. Louis won a Cup with him, so presumably he's not terrible. But I admit I don't see many St. Louis games.
- JohnScammo

As Al Arbour said about Bossy (paraphrasing, of course) “Get me that guy, I can teach anyone to play defense”. Trotz can likely do the same. As screwed as we were as a franchise for so many years, it is funny that we have had the good fortune of two of the best
Coaches in NHL history.

I don’t understand why Bailey is available TBH. His cap hit for what he’s been bringing the past few playoffs is very reasonable, and he’s a Swiss Army knife. I get Lou is trying g to move salary just don’t understand why he’d put Bailey out there unless Francis wants him and there’s some type of deal in place.

Because Lou could only protect 7 forwards? Whom would you have exposed instead?

Martin makes peanuts and the team saves little if he's drafted. Clutterbuck was terrific in the playoffs and his cap hit is $1.5 million less than Bailey's. I guess we'll agree to disagree.

Good luck with that. I think you underestimate his value to the team, and I don't think he'd be so easy to replace.........certainly not for 1/3 his salary.

One guy that comes to mind is Pat Maroon, he made $900K last year. As I said I love 15. But I think he could be more easily replaced than Bailey and the difference saved would offset the loss. Doesn’t matter Lou has a plan. I’m sure I’ll be happy regardless.

Maroon is not a free agent. He is signed for another season with Tampa, so he's not even an option. But I'd take Clutterbuck over him any day of the week.

From the earlier post it sounds like Maroon would much rather be playing FOR us than against us.
Not that I’m advocating losing Cal, because Maroon is going to get his money somewhere and it will likely be in the neighborhood of what Cal gets now.

Not saying he is. Just saying there are cheaper options. And I get the “4th” line isn’t really set up like most teams 4th lines. Which is why they all make north of $2M and our top player makes less than $9M. They balance them all out. I get why Bailey was exposed.

Yup, there are cheaper options. I just think they're less effective.

For the record, Martin only makes $1.5 million. I think he took a discount to stay with the Islanders.

Yeah that was pretty cool hearing those guys thoughts on the Coli crowd. Re: exposed players, I was saying I think I’d have exposed 15 over 12. I think the reason is 15 has one year left on his deal while 12 has two or three.

Right. We probably have the highest paid 4th line in the league. The Boltz rolled four lines too and I’m not going to look it up but I bet they make half what ours does, if not less.

Probably. I know it's an imperfect stat, but I'll just throw this out there for your consideration.......

In this year's playoffs--

Clutterbuck had 4 goals, 3 assists and was +5

Bailey had 6 goals, 7 assists and was -2

Look up their CAREER playoff POINTS differential in similar games. It’s not even close. I’d personally rather use a larger sample size.

Lou has just freed up a bunch of money. He’s obviously looking to add up front. Eberle and or Bailey will be replaced. That 4th line was the isles best line and has been for years. Amazing how quick some are to break up the least expensive, yet most effective line.

That line was easily replaced a few years back in mosts eyes. I think many have changed their minds.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember a lot of us couldn’t wait for Bailey to not be an islander and now they might actually lose him a lot of us seem upset about it.

POV Bailey is an ok player with some offensive skills and plays a nice two way game but he’s slow and turns the puck over more than I would like. I guess for sentimental reason I would like him to be on the team but I won’t lose any sleep if he isn’t after tomorrow.
