They got Tuch instead of Dumba, both good players

Karlsson instead of Atkinson

Theodore was the real steal

They pissed away all the 1st round picks

Vegas is good because of all the moves they made AFTER the draft in subsequent years. Stone, Patches, Pietrangelo. Overall their asset management has been pretty terrible IMO

Tatar trade, Suzuki instead of Glass for Patches, or just keep both and sign Patches as a FA, same argument for Stone

I don't think they pissed away the picks because of what you said. The moves after the draft (including trading said picks) made them good.

Someone else said it too so I'm just going to echo that.

Also, not only did those players play well they also got assets to take them instead of other guys! Which led to being able to make those trades.

Your argument has a major flaw in that it hinges on the players reaching UFA and Vegas being able to out-compete other teams for those guys in UFA. For example, Stone re-signed immediately after he was traded; who's to say he doesn't do that with any other team that acquires him? And then Vegas would've lost out on a top-10 forward in the league.
