Yep and they are not the only team that might have/already have a log-jam in net. With the amount of goalies always available on the UFA market and teams having log-jams now or in the future, the Wings should be able to trade for a good young goalie at some point which is why i wouldn't use a top 10 pick on a goalie.

And listen, that makes sense to me. I've said, for a very long time, that sometimes you have to take a chance, but reading comments from posters here, I can see what is being said....and it makes sense to me. I just worry that relying upon a trade or UFA isn't as reliable as drafting and molding them into what you want/need them to be...but that's true for any draftee.

SO.....draft or trade/UFA; I'm good either way, but if I'm The Captain, I take Walstedt @ #6

I will say this. All athletes care about their legacy. Nashville and New Jersey plugged him in to all the extra media outlets that took away from the player. They sold Duchene on helping his country music career. I think if Yzerman brought him in, he’d want to be flipped to a contender (and if his salary was twice retained it would be an easier sell). Markets keep selling athletes on the “stuff” instead of the hockey. That’s not what you want someone’s frame of mind to be. Most of these guys will retire in or before their 30s. Plenty of time to do the other stuff. Sell them on being a pro

That's a spot-on analysis, J. And, by the way, Duschene STILL hasn't put out a record

Everyone needs to stop looking at LD vs RD. The previous cup runs used to have all LD or only one RD. Some players prefer playing the opposite site.

We need to focus more on getting NHL talent rather than be concerned if they're RH.

I agree. I'm a left shot and always played right D. When I coached, I observed some guys could naturally play opposite side, and some couldn't. It really didn't have anything to do with their skill level, it is just about how comfortable they are with transitions and setups. In the modern game when everything is about PP & PK, it's probably a little different, but I too think too much value is placed on it.

Exactly. Also Klinberg or Lindstrom? Really? Also Seider has never played an NHL game.

Problem is (for the Wings anyways) Klingberg is a righty which would only add to the logjam. I guess it could work if Yzerman traded Hronek for a good young LD but they would have to re-sign Klingberg who is set to become a UFA after this season.

Good points, I was thinking If there’s some Lindstrom connection to soften the deal?
