Doesn't classify as big. Only when you compare the two on a protection list ad nauseam.

I've been saying for two years "I can't believe Strome hasn't figured out he needs to get stronger - he's not Gretzky." I saw him try very hard at a Carolina game and simply get outmuscled to the puck for 3 periods. He could be a different player if he was stronger but "so far so/no good."

Did you see that picture of Strome on twitter with his new baby? He had no shirt on and his arms were skinny little pipe cleaners. He's definitely not a gym rat.

Other rumors:

Sabres asking for a solid prospect + 2nd rounder for Ristolainen. Could this help set a trade market for Zadorov?

Kraken are likely to take Tarasenko from the Blues then flip him to another team with the Flyers, Isles, and Panthers as front runners.

Possible trade packages for Eichel where the Sabres are asking for at least 4 assets:

* From the Wild: Boldy, Rossi, Dumba + Kakhonen

* From the Rangers: Kravtsov, Schneider, Chytil, and possibly Georgiev + Buchnevich

I feel like an injured Eichel should be worth 1-2 players tops. I think Buffalo just has no clue.

You should go on their thread and read what they think Eichel and Reinhart are both worth. It's insane.

Send Strome, DeHaan, and a Tier II prospect. Only if S.J. willing to sign extension.

(frank) the Jackets and Sabres

I might offer a 7th rounder for Jones and that's it.

Give away futures and take a cap hit is no way to rebuild.

Doesn't Eichel want out of Buffalo, or do I have the wrong player in mind? If he does want out, he doesn't get a huge haul of a return. Same with Jones.

From what I read on another site, Francis may ask for three assets. One - a young defenseman since he will miss out on selecting Dunn from STL to take Tarasenko, Two - a piece for the salary retention, Three - something in return for Tarasenko himself.

The Jackets would also need to do a trade and sign with Klingberg who has one year left on his current contract of $4.25M AAV.

There was also a report yesterday that Makar is sure to get a higher salary than Heiskanen's recently signed $8.45M AAV extension.

Probably why Landeskog is having such a tough time with negotiations?

Wow St. Louis is the big winner there. More cap space to sign Landeskog and they keep Dunn.

I just wonder how this will work, since the league said they cannot retain salary for Price. If you think about it, if Seattle picks Price, then he is their asset, and teams are allowed to retain salary on players traded. I think the NHL was caught with their pants down again and now are trying to cover it with a tissue (they are doing a poor job of it).

Which is 100% Seattle should take Dunn. Tarasenko is disgruntled and wants out anyway. I question how big of a return anyone will get coming off of his two shoulder surgeries.

Probably why they take Z instead of DeHaan too.

I wouldn't have an issue with Strome's skating as much if he weighed 230 instead of 200 wet so he could park his ass below the blue line or infront of the net and provide some value there.

I think as a player at that point you have to be smart and if you're not going to be fast (though i thought his skating got better before he hurt his ankle) you should at least be strong. At 19 putting on a bunch of weight maybe not so easy but approaching 25 there should be a bit more lead in his ass.

The vision and skill is there but some onus should be on the player at this point to figure himself out even if he's fallen out of favor with the org. Pitter patter.

- fattybeef

You are right on and this is probably why the Hawks are so frustrated with Strome. Look at Tavares, he’s not a speed demon by any means, Strome needs to understand what he needs to accomplish to stay with Hawks, or they need to cut the cord.

Sorry to quote you twice Pops, but has anyone heard indications on how much Jones is looking for in his next deal?

So far it seems all the focus has been on trade assets and whether he will re-sign, while ignoring the size of the next contract. I would imagine that he and Hamilton would like similar deals.

I think this situation implies that Tarasenko would be going to a team other than St. Louis. Hence, it would not be cap circumvention.
