Seriously though, Francis should offer him a 3 year $40M deal and see if he will run for the money.

Having the spectacle of him chasing the all time goals record would be pretty amazing for an expansion club.

I agree. I think there are a few real powerplay moves for Francis:

Carolina - Neiderreiter is a distraction. I am spending the next few days guaging what Hamilton can be signed for. If it is under $8M aav I am signing him, if not I am taking Bean and still engaging with him in FA. I am not helping the Canes sign Hamilton by taking Neiderreiter.

Tampa - I'm taking Joseph or Foote. Not letting them off the hook with any salary if I am not getting paid.

Montreal - need to think about this but I'm not taking Price, Weber or Drouin. Depending on what centers you decide to go with, a Danault deal might be the best option.

St Louis - very tricky. Tarasenko is the sexy move but Dunn is a really good player. Probably depends on some of the other moves.

Betcha if Francis takes Joseph, he could end up with Gourde or Killorn if he agrees to take on Johnson. That way they get 3 guys

Only reason I wouldn't take Danault is the 3rd line checking center is the easiest center to get in the expansion draft. If he takes the Gourde/Johnson he sorta gets 2 of them. He needs to save his $$ to get a top 6 center

I kinda know what Montreal is doing here and that would make me want to take Price just to spite them. A new expansion team also kinda needs a "Face of the Franchise" like Vegas had with Fleury. I think it's clear Francis wanted Allen, I wouldn't be above taking Price then immediately offering him back to MTL for Allen straight up, and just make Bergy look bad if he didn't bite and roll with Price

I get everyone being enamored with all the goalies, Driedger, Vanacek, Kahkonen, etc but none of them will be as good as Price. And you can still take Price and 2 of the cheap ones still under contract

God quit whining and crying about McCann. He was a zero. Added a prospect and a low pick while dumping 2.9M in cap space. Since this article makes such a deep push on cap space you would think that opening up almost 3m is ideal going into free agency while adding a center prospect. You're points on Tanev are trash as well. 3.5M is not a high cap hit, particularly when he provides something that Sully has completely run off the roster. When we see what Hyman gets maybe you'll finally shut up. ZAR as the Kraken pick? We should pray for that. Doesnt hit or score which is why he doesn't make anything.

Due to Vegas's success out of the gate, Seattle's goal seems to be to make the playoffs this year. That means that they have to be either in the top three in the Pacific or in the top eight in the West. For that reason, I suspect that Francis will first want to weaken the immediate opposition - the teams that they're competing against for the playoffs. Recognizing that he can't get any players from Vegas, he will have to make certain that he gets the best players available from the Pacific teams to do the maximum damage he can, and then round out the roster with the best available remaining players. I don't expect that he'll take any marginal players from the Pacific, though I suspect that might do so from the East - especially if he wants to use salary cap space as a weapon, as he's indicated this past week.

That's why I suspect that a player like ZAR is more likely to be taken from the Pens, although I would much prefer to see Seattle take Zucker or Petterson.

Besides Hyman, I wonder who Hextall would be after if his plan comes together (which we assume is shedding the salary of Zucker, McCann and Pettersson). Does he take a shot at Landeskog? Hamilton? I really wonder what his thoughts are right now. I assume go heavy into free agency where we don't have to give up any assets.

I like the possibility of Foote, but there are some good forwards on Tampa I'd want to look at if I was Tampa.

If they can sign him, Danault might be one of the best centers they can get so I like that suggestion.

Praying for Seattle to take Pettersson but I really doubt it. So many good players exposed out there. The Kraken will be a team to follow.

You have some interesting options. Can't believe of all the ex Pens the one who got protected was Sprong.

Peterson is awful. They need to buy out that contract if they can't get rid of him. Matheson has shown flashes of potential but he is another liability on their defensive core. In my opinion, the obvious way the pens should be improving (other than goaltending) is defense. And honestly, it's more prioritizing getting rid of matheson and petterson any way they can, cause they both are not good NHLers

Losing McCaan, Tanev and no Geno for a good chunk of the season he better have a plan. I’m starting to think he just wants the Crosby/Malkin era to be over and is setting himself up for a quick rebuild to show everyone how smart he is.

And there are so many defensemen better than Pettersson available in the expansion draft. I could see us unloading him if we give up draft picks only.

I think you’ll get them back soon one way or another. Even hearing some rumors of expansion.

The Key Arena is revamped and under a new name now: Climate Pledge Arena. I could see Seattle getting back the Sonics by 2025.
