They didn't want to lose just McCann

They wanted to lose McCann PLUS another guy (Zucker/Petts)

Hex wants capspace to he can reshape the roster

- TheGame316

Yes it appears that way for sure. I hope Seattle takes Zuck so we get the most money out that we can. Pettersson will be easier to trade if they want to move him as well IMO.

Seriously have any of you people any idea how corporate America works? Malkin is akin to the office exec who gets offered a “promotion” when it’s time to retire, not the operations manager who gets the boot if he’s bad at dialing into webex.
- Victoro311

Or even just how union rights works if he thinks an employer can just tell him to waive his rights.

I think the worst case for Hex had he kept McCann was that Seattle would have taken ZAR, and he'd be stuck with McCann/Zucker and Petts still on the roster, the want to move at least 2 of them with nothing coming back and free agency just days away

The lack of capspace would basically handcuff the team and force us to run it back or trade guys for other guys for the sake of trading them which is just rearranging the deck chairs

I'm interested to see how they go about upgrading the goaltending IF they go that route.

So I know I messed up and read the article. But isn't Marino the player with the longest term currently? RW claimed it was matheson

Also I posted in here a little while back that Zucker had his house up for sale. (My cousin works in the county courthouse so he sees these things) Not saying it means he's gone but just sharing that for speculation.

Yup... That's the most interesting story in the offseason. No question they will address it. I can't possibly see them trusting Jarry after that post-season performance. GM malpractice if they do.

Probably that could be exposed. Marino is exempt from expansion draft.

Help me understand:
Brandon Tanev’s contract universally viewed as bad because of term. Seattle is all-in on analytics. And we’re supposed to ignore both of those points and presume Kraken want a 4th line winger at $3.5M for next 4 seasons?
My head hurts.

Seeing the forwards that will be available to SEA I think it's Petts, but this my the order IMO is the liklihood

Pettersson
DeSmith
ZAR
Zucker
Tanev

Not unusual for RW to skimp on the details

Yesterday he thought if we kept and protected McCann that we'd only end up losing some useless 4th liner, when it would mean that Zucker would still be exposed, who was top 6 last time I checked

I basically trust Crosby, Carter, Letang and Tanev to show up and do what they are suppose to in the playoffs at this point.

Regardless of that, point still stands that even if Geno tells the Kraken he won't play there they still can pick him and he's no longer a Pen even if he leaves for Russia and comes back. He'd be Kraken property. And I'd do it. I would be taking Price too. It's a good big name to grab and sell merch and he's still a really good goalie.

What does that matter? If Jarry has an .888 save percentage we're losing the series no matter what they do.

Goalie upgrade is going to be hard to pull off unless they straight up jettison Jarry

If you sign a reliable vet (Mrazek/Ullmark, Rantta, etc), say to 3 million (The McCann savings), you then lose your very capable and cost effective backup in DeSmith. And that 3 million dollar goalie won't technically be any better then Jarry, he'd just be insurance in case Jarry isn't the guy and sh1ts the bed again. So, you'll end up having 7 million invested in 2 league average goalies

If you go for a bonafide #1 capable goalie through trade or FA to 1A/1B and Jarry is still around, (Think Grubauer/Bishop/etc) and he's in the 5 million plus range, now you got 9-10 million tied up in goal which would mean Petts and McCann would end up being replaced from within with ELC guys and not Free Agents, and you'd have to rely on this new goaltending combo to make up the difference

If we're going bonafide goalie, say Gibson. I'm moving Jarry in that deal and keeping Desmith. If they can't move Jarry then I guess we're (frank)ed.

Easier said than done

Does Anaheim want Jarry? What else do they want to get the deal done? Are we a better team if we acquire Gibson but it costs us POJ/Kapanen and Poulin to get it done? what if the asking price is Jake?

If we are looking to get a better goalie then Jarry, It's gonna come down to Bishop at low cost, Grubauer as a FA, or some kind of crazy miracle like Rask or Fleury. Most of these likely leave us still with Jarry on the roster and having to unload him somewhere or we end up with 10 million goalie combo and holes in the forwards and D

My point is there are 4 skaters you can count on in the playoffs. The team isn’t good enough.

Plot twist. Pens trade Jake for Gibson. Zucker ends up rekindling his early chemistry with Crosby.

(This is not what I expect to happen)

I'd take Bean and Dunn. Nino seems like the type of guy that would get 1st line minutes and PP time for his 1 year, put up decent stats and then demand 7+ million as a UFA, and he's just not that kind of player

Tarasenko might be cooked and you don't want to start your franchise with an albatross contract, even if it's just for 2 years. It would depend on what kind of deal Dunn is projected to get

I don't think stockpiling a bunch of good young defenseman is ever a bad thing

A lot of guys in their last year of their deal I'd probably look to take just to flip with retention at the deadline for some extra 1sts. So, maybe thats an argument for guys like Nino

Only problem with that is if the Kracken get caught in the trap of competing for a playoff spot in Year 1. There will be pressure to be buyers when being sellers would be the smart move

- TheGame316

I agree. I think there are a few real powerplay moves for Francis:

Carolina - Neiderreiter is a distraction. I am spending the next few days guaging what Hamilton can be signed for. If it is under $8M aav I am signing him, if not I am taking Bean and still engaging with him in FA. I am not helping the Canes sign Hamilton by taking Neiderreiter.

Tampa - I'm taking Joseph or Foote. Not letting them off the hook with any salary if I am not getting paid.

Montreal - need to think about this but I'm not taking Price, Weber or Drouin. Depending on what centers you decide to go with, a Danault deal might be the best option.

St Louis - very tricky. Tarasenko is the sexy move but Dunn is a really good player. Probably depends on some of the other moves.
