It would make more sense just to forfeit the selection then by having one less contract slot used instead of picking a cheap garbage player of zero value.

Every pick Seattle makes is an asset, not an actual roster player. So a lot of the players selected won't even see a second in Seattle and I don't think a lot of people understand that.

Thank you. I was thinking the exact same thing. Seattle can aquire a player and pretty much flip him to another team - picking up additional draft collateral or players - numerous times. So its really mostly about maximizing assets at this point.

Seattle will be far better placed to tap into a existing hockey fan base than Vegas. There was essentially no competitive hockey as a spectator sport in Nevada of any significance. Washington however has many junior teams, incl. 3 from the WHL. Further, the area has lots of techie people (MS, Boeing etc) from Western Europe who would also be aware of hockey. The weather is more conducive to amateur hockey, etc. etc. In summary, they have to arguably sell the team but not the sport.

Then there are the hires. Francis was a guy who loathed making trades and liked hanging on to his picks. Hakstol is a guy whose main rep is working with young players - he has far less pro experience than Galant.

This is pure conjecture, but I would guess that Kraken face less pressure to be competitive immediately.

Good lord EK. Why are you surprised about Tanev being exposed? He is a tweener 3rd/4th line player. He is on the wrong side of 30, signed for to long on term, and is easily replaceable

Good for 20 wins next year and the best odds for the #1 draft pick of 2022.

biggest surprise is GM's not allowing themselves to be franked by Seattle. Lot of BIG names out there but will be a mediocre team at best as it should be. Vegas was allowed to bend teams over and glad it won't happen again.

It's possible that he mixed up the Tanev's...

If it was insane for NYR to get Goodrow for just a 7th...Then it's crazy insane to leave him unprotected! Why trade for him then? Seattle will claim him for sure. Great player.

I know Ovechkin is getting older but Seattle should add him too. Price. Ovie. Gaudreau. They will be good. Hi kids.

He would have to agree to a contract with Seattle. He’ll reach a deal prior with NY regardless. Seattle will take Gauthier

Tanev is a depth player. He doesn't have crazy work ethic/skill. He's a fine player but nothing special.
- jfkst1

I thought he was one of your best players in the playoffs. Guy was great.

I know the Canucks have left a pile of garbage unprotected, but Seattle still has to take someone from them.
