His last encounter was Justin Holl. Leafs fans were salty after that one. Also, hey only 5 goals for Kassian since the incident. You love to see it. Cheers.

Meant his last "pest" encounter Holl started that one by cross checking him earlier. And this is actually a glowing example of why he should wear the C... stands up for himself and fights his own battles in addition to those of his teammates.

Also love to see Kass' mouth shut

I like your thinking. Giving Tkachuk the C changes the attitude of the team completely. It squashes any doubt as to the Flames commitment to the identity of the team. I'm sure Sutter would sit him down and have a long chat before that happens.
Having a more engaged Chucky makes them a better team.

Also just have to add... on what planet is Craig Button the Scouting Director for TSN when he had the Flames protecting Glenn (frank)ing Gawdin instead of Backlund?!?

No wonder he hasn't held an actual NHL job in 15 years...

Damn. Could Ecklund be Button's pseudonym?

My mock expansion. I think it makes too much sense for Seattle to pick Gio and then flip for assets either before the draft or at next years trade deadline....

JVR - Johansen - Tarasenko
Neiderreiter - Gourde - Eberle
Zucker - Domi - Fischer
Athanasiou - Kahun - Nieto

Oleksiak - Demelo
Dillon - Stetcher
Dermott - Lauzon

Gauthier, Bastian, Larsson, Borgen (extras)

Dreidger
Holtby
Kahkonen (minors)

Picked Oleksiak and signed a multi year deal.
Picked the following players for the purpose of flipping with partial salary retention for picks/prospects: Donksoi, Tierney, Gio, De Haan and Kulak

Problem you have with that is they can pick Oleksiak but Oleksiak doesnt have to sign with them, he can sign for whoever he wants. No other Flames available have the asset value of Gio, Gio is gone unless Treliving flicks a bunch of assets to do that. Maybe Francis goes to Treliving tomorrow morning knowing he isnt extorting what he wants & he does want to go with your plan, he may ask Tre to flick him one of our extra 3rds to avoid Gio & I would think Treliving would agree to that. If they dont take Gio & go with someone else just because they want to sign Oleksiak with Gio's cap hit, then we just dodged our 2nd expansion draft again.

Similarly ran my mock yesterday:

Drouin Kerfoot Voracek
Milano Gaudette Fisher
Lemieux Granlund Compher
Ritchie Blais Hathaway

Giordano Hamilton
Hickey Demelo
McCabe Carlsson

Driedger Kahkonen

BN/Development
Stetcher Vatanen
Merkeley Foote
Gauthier Donato
Lind
Forsberg DeSmith

LTIR
Klefbom

At $71.7M before they LTIR Klefbom, leaving them around $14M for raises to Hamilton and the rest of the RFAs on here. Then think they start looking at flipping some assets similar to what Vegas ultimately did with their depth on defence. Would explore moving Hickey or Carlsson and one of the goalies, particularly think Kahkonen could hold some value for someone out there.

With all the goaltenders available, I cannot see Francis doing Benning a huge solid by taking Holtby off their hands.

I can see the Kraken trying to do the most damage to the teams in the Pacific. Does taking Gio hurt us more than Kylington? It does. Taking Gio places a pretty large hole in our top 4 as well as leaves us without a Captain.

Just an opinion.

I think Vegas goes all in for Eichel. Getting and established legit star under contract to build around is a good way to start out.

I could see the Kraken making a run at that, particularly if they can extract some draft picks out of teams for not taking certain players (or for taking a bad contract).

When I first read that I thought you were saying Francis should do Benning a favor by taking Holtby... Reading comprehension obviously isn't my strong suit.

I think Francis should offer sheet Pettersson... THATS the way to start a rivalry and screw Benning!

Where you at these days?
