When you start talking about posters instead of posters opinions, which are free game, you are out of line. Make a credible argument instead and then we can have an adult conversation.

I took as more of Ellis slowing down recently. Like I said, take it with a grain of salt and it's just one blogger's opinion. We know how that goes. It's about looking at why Nashville made this deal.
- MJL

Ellis is on a questionable contract, Myers is much younger and Glass potentially fills the hole left by Granlund and Haula going to UFA (and possibly RyJo or Duchene going in expansion).

Ellis doesn't have to be bad for this trade to make sense for Poile.

This is complete crap. Before last season he was a promising young defenseman and a bright spot for the organization. Hard to believe that a young inexperienced defenseman had issues sorting it out playing on a team that was dysfunctional in all areas and in attention to team detail.
- MJL

I like Meyers too. I thought he could round out to be a solid top 4 dman. However, I feel that this came down to either Sanheim or Meyers. I think the Flyers saw more potential with Sanheim, since they drafted him in the first round, than with Meyers.

But maybe it is correct and you just don't see it. I think saying you have orange colored glasses isn't critical. Its just is what it is. A large % of people favor the players from their own team over other teams players, thats just the nature of it.

Like some people think we need to get rid of coots, because he's almost 30. Its not critical of his game, just think they need to move on from him before he slows down.

- bradster

I also think the exact opposite is true of some posters on this site. To some every player on the Flyers is trash and every player not on the Flyers is an upgrade.

Myers has egg salad for brains. If he ever turns into a 1st pairing D man I’ll eat my hat.

LOL

"I've asked him several times, who he would've rather traded for once he started poo pooing this trade, and he hasn't answered. Some people just want to complain no matter what happens. If chuck didn't do anything people would've complained, he makes this trade, people complain. That's the nature of some people. "

It's more than just the contract. I don't know anyone who has said or insinuated that Ellis is bad. Put your GM hat on and if Ellis is healthy, would you have made this trade?

For the record, I was hoping Chuck wouldn’t do anything until we knew who was going to be taken by Seattle. I don’t see the point in protecting NAK.

It was more than a hiccup imo. To much went wrong. Hopefully they make more changes. In this league you can turn it around very quick. Still woul dliek to see Eichel!!!

I do not like coaching staff. I do not think they will lead this team anywhere. They did a piss poor job and they all returned.

- hello it's me 2050

This is the same coaching staff that led them 1 game from the ECF the year before...did they suck then?

I think meyers has potential to be better than sandheim, but we don't know if he will hit that potential. If Meyers was a slam dunk we would have kept him. I have no idea how he will do this year.

If I had Roman Josi and Matty Ekholm to fall back on, I would. And you know how big of a fan of Myers I am.

Protecting nak has more to do with limiting options for seattle to take a lower priced player to offload one of our higher priced players.

To make sure JVR and Voracek are available. CF is trying to get them to take a salary. NAK probably won't even play regularly for the Flyers next season.

So the Kraken can take Braun or Hagg. Both are solid third pair-depth D-men. Or they can take the salary of Ghost, JVR or Voracek.

If the proposed Voracek trade takes place then the Kraken will take Hagg. If not, I think they take JVR.

Can be many reasons why he got the return he got. That can be speculated all day. From good reason to bad reasons.

What do you think the market was for Ellis pre ED? Who else was possible interested?

- hello it's me 2050

I think a lot of teams would be interested in Ellis, but how many of those teams have 1. the cap space to take Ellis' contract and 2. have young players who were relatively cheap and have upside to deal for Ellis? This is why I have been saying the Flyers have the assets and, especially after the ED, the cap space to turn this team around quickly.

He said he didn't like the deal. Which is fine ,he values Meyers higher than most, so doesn't like losing him. I liked meyers too, but we needed a better RHD
- bradster

Well, of course as you know I absolutely hate Myers, so this deal made me giddy :-)

Ellis is better than Ekholm and is RH. Ekholm is a pending UFA after this season. Looking just strictly hockey wise, what GM gives up a legit RH top pair defenseman that is signed long term unless he was blown away with a deal?

Myers has been passed over in the flyers eyes and was expendable. When the coach calls you out several times about not getting what he is telling you maybe he just isn't to bright.

Myers isn't exactly a walking model of health. Been hurt pretty much every year he has been a pro.

- hello it's me 2050

I think the worst comment I heard from AV regarding Myers was his lack of willingness to go into a corner and take a hit to make a play. This is a very damming comment, especially if the player is 6' 5" and can skate as well as Myers can.

They were outcoached in the playoffs. So yes they sucked then and it carried over to this year.

If Nashville had waited until after the ED, they could've gotten a better deal for Ellis in my opinion.

I know this is for another poster but perhaps they like what they have in their farm system...or maybe the need the cap to make a larger play on Eichel or another pivot. Just too many moving parts to form a concrete base if we arent "in the room"
