Ellis is a very good D when healthy. He fits for Provy if they want him too, I don’t like giving away the young pieces. I will wait and see what else fletch has going
- wcorvette

You’re gonna have to because we didn’t just trade for Seth Jones, which was the expectation.

Myers is 25. He has not been good. Patrick is barely keeping a NHL job, has head problems and reportedly wanted out of town. They addressed a glaring need with this move. Idk what people want/expect Chuck to do exactly

Well. This makes me feel a little better about it. But it begins.

Overall in the big picture, I give a thumbs down on this trade. Makes them better right now but how much better? Are they a Cup team now? Nope. This is a future team, not a now team. Ellis has too much term.

Thank you! Anyone who is happy about this deal is lost! It’s a no brainer on how bad a deal this is.

You think Ryan Ellis is Matt Niskanen with all the success Ellis has had in his career. Here’s an idea, let’s start comparing Ellis to Kimmo Timonen when the only thing the two have in common are they both were traded here from Nashville and are both tiny in height.
- SuperSchennBros

No I think Ellis is much better than Niskanen and I liked Niskanen

Both can run the PP. Both experienced team leaders.

Hextall filled the Cupboards just for Chuck to pull out the new glasses and plates and smash them against the ground.

Maybe in isolation, but I don’t think Myers and Patrick were going to have All Star level bounce back seasons. I also think this just the first move Chuck makes. I think he is going to make 3 or 4 more moves and this team will look much better when he is done. He gave himself 2 spots on the protection list with this move. He has a lot of options and did improve the D. If he can move Ghost and sign Larsson this team looks much different. I like this first move and consider the jury still out on CF’s work for this offseason.

Definitely. This is the kind of move you make if your team just made a deep PO run and came close. Not the kind of move you make when your team is picking 13th-overall.

Between this and Hayes, if the Flyers don't win the Cup within the next 3-5 years, they're gonna be in a world of hurt.

- Tomahawk

why? What did they really give up in this? You were expecting Patrick to still become a 1C on the flyers?

One of the things Ellis does consistently is miss games due to injury.

Ok but for how long? This isn’t a now process, it’s an on going moving forward process.

Lets just see what happens with the ED, draft, and FA.

Right now they got the top pair RH D they badly needed for a 4C and 25 year old who can’t handle 2nd pair duties.

We’ve got guys here talking about Giroux’s next deal (that will take him into his late 30’s)who are also upset that we traded for a 30 year old. Absolute nonsense.

What do you Myers hasn’t been good? He had one bad season. In the playoffs one year ago, I liked what I saw from Sanheim and Myers together than I did from Niskanen the same playoffs.
- SuperSchennBros

They develop Myers, and give me 2 half seasons, essentially. In one, he is great. In another, with a packed schedule and Covid disturbances, there is a cluster(frank) and he is one of the worst.

They give up on a promising, tall, physical RHD 24 (frank)ing years old after 1 half-season, that too strange, for the sake of a 30 year old guy, who is good when playing but not elite, and who has 6 more years of a HUGE contract.

Teams make moves like this either if they want to milk one last run out of a group of stars or they have a bunch of young stars on the cusp. You are a fringe, irrelevant team and you do this?

I think this trade will work in the short term. I'm not sure what this does for the future of the Flyers.
- Pelle31Forever

I dont understand how this hurts our future? What did we really lose? 2 players that shouldnt have been playing in the NHL last year. Unless you still expected big things from patrick, but most of us have moved on

Myers was signed off the street and very few felt Patrick was going to be good for this team...what did he really “give” away...Myers might be good, but Ellis IS good.

Protecting JVR makes this a good deal because A) I want him on the team and B) it increases the chance that Seattle takes Jake off our hands

I fully expected Myers to have a bounce back year and become a solid NHL defenseman. No, he gave them one spot. Ellis just replaces Myers. What they did is start the move to become older and capped out. I hope any other moves are not more of the same.
