I know it's not a popular opinion on here but I think our window has already closed. Ellis is here now so I'll support him and wish him the best. Just not the direction I was hoping for. - dubc55
i think so too but he's trying to put something out there to bring the casual fans back in with |

Keep it in your pants, jeez. He's a top 4 d. Not Bobby Orr.
Hopefully he stays healthy and contributes for the duration of his contract. The management believes this team can win, I guess all we can do as fans is sit back and watch...or not, the product has been less than desirable for quite some time now. - dubc55
Agreed he is not Bobby Orr. Hardly anybody was that good. But so funny you said Orr. Just saw this quote on Ellis draft year. Orr makes a comment. Bobby Orr said of him, "he's not very big, but you'll see...he's a heck of a hockey player.“ |

What’s interesting to me is, this deal makes room to protect yesterday JvR, when last than 24 hours ago, everyone would have tongue kissed their mother just to get JvR out of here.
I like Ryan Ellis, I do. I saw him play a few times in Windsor. The problem isn’t the player we got. It’s what we gave up and how easily we washed our hands of what we gave up based on a throw away Covid season. On top of this, if making this deal had protecting JvR in mind, the deal is even worse.
Unless we’re picking up Jack Eichel next, this deal is meaningless. |

Schenn, not just this comment, pretty much all of your comments on the trade are bad. Your critical thinking skills are severely lacking. Patrick plays with no heart out there and said he wanted out. And he may never recover from his migraines. He’s worse than Wentz. Myers has potential but he needs some fire too. The man ain’t mean enough for his size. Ellis is a great fit next to Provy. We won this trade.
Do you play hockey? You seem like a nervous guy. Chill. |

From The sporting news:
"Myers has shown flashes of being an everyday defenseman with skill but has not been consistent. Ellis is a stud."

lets give up 2 young players for a guy that can't even finish a full season - 2Real
We gonna act like one hasn’t had migraine issues and the other hasn’t had good amount of injuries himself in his young career lol? |

Hahahahahahaha
This is your argument. Assuming I’m a nervous guy is not only strange, it has nothing to do with anything. Questioning if I play hockey and telling me what they need, is like me asking you if you’re an NHL GM or Coach. You’re not even speaking with logic but somehow my comments are lacking, when the truth is, you just disagree with me.
I only have one question. Who is happy that we are now choosing to protect JvR after the vast majority of this board was hoping he’d get taken in the expansion draft? |

Not sure Ellis moves the needle with casual fans. Hockey fans know him, for sure. Casual fans in Philly? ehh, I dunno. |

Just found out about the trades, read through all the comments....
WOW.
Someone said it already, but no matter what the Flyers do it's going to be poop on.
So for all the video game hockey players this is what is considered a good hockey trade. Actually Fletcher did an incredible job not giving up the first round pick too, which would of made sense. Pretty good job not giving up Sanheim either and just the undrafted Myers (basically a free asset).
If you want something then you have to give up something that you don't want to give up to get it...and Santa is not real. I know I just crushed a lot of dreams there.
A little shocked Vegas gave up on Glass, who at this point has a better upside than Patrick. |

Why would the Flyers now protect JvR? That would be an extremely odd move just because they traded Patrick.
The obvious solution to fill the slot Patrick took is protecting a cheaper forward Francis would be interested in for depth. |

Protecting JVR means Seattle has less options and leverage. Bigger chance of Jake getting selected. I think they will select either Jake or Ghost. Would be surprised if they grab one of the lesser contracts with little flip to no flipping value. |

I agree that we won this trade. Everybody got something but player wise we got the best player and his AAV is solid for what he brings.
I don’t think Schenn is this way but some people are never happy and love to live in misery. |

Francis is not taking NAK. Not happing. I would fall out of my chair if that happens. So force him to take a higher contract if he wants a forward. Hence the conversations Chuck had with Jake. The only other cheap contracts that may be poached would be Braun and Hagg. There is a chance here but I doubt they want those guys. They both will finish their careers on the 3rd pair. Lots of them out there. |

I am not qualified to comment on potential of young players. They seem high on him. I think he played across Josi some last year, though that could be something like Rutta playing across Hedman. What I do know is that every Preds protected list in ED had him in it.
I assume Myers will be exposed. - PT21
I would be surprised if they expose Myers when they just traded for him. If they do that shows his value, if they do and he doesn't get picked, that shows it even more. |

We are on completely different wave lengths, my friend. I doubt it I say it for the tenth time you would agree/understand when the 9 times previously failed. I just want to wrap up here before moseying over to new blog, so I will let it rest at that. |

Couldn't have said it better myself. Excellent post! - Pelle31Forever
Very well said by MJL, I agree.
The only thing I would add to what he said is that Ellis is an embodiment of the good enough to be relevant but not good enough to be a game breaker and with injury/age is likely to be a handicap in later years because of length and duration of his contract player.
In other words, quite apart from losing Myers/Patrick, there are reasons to not like this trade. |

The bolded statements are total bs and you know it. Many other moves can (and likely will) be made for both short and longterm benefits. The Flyers got better today, and they did not give up draft picks or prospects to do it (ie greater impact on longterm success). - BenderRodriguez
The only thing I know is that you either did not read what I said carefully or did not understand it.
No one disputes the fact that the Flyers got better today. In fact, a lot better. If you however believe that the road to a cup is a sequence of 'getting better today' moves, position by position, then we are arguing apples and oranges. |

I just wouldn't have traded for Ellis in the first place. I guess management thinks this core is going to push for the cup? Ellis from 5 years ago on a 6 year term is good. Injury plagued Ellis at 30 years old with 6 years of term? No thanks. Now, Patrick for Glass? Yes. - dubc55
No. Almost certainly not.
But management thinks, correctly, that a significant section of the Flyers fan base can be asked to think that way. |
