I'd be interested to hear from the haters of this trade, if you were going to trade for ellis, who has a good cap hit for a #1RHD and fits EXACTLY what we need. What would you trade to get him if not meyers? They aint taking Jake or JVR or Ghost.

A shorter term if we are keeping all else about the player the same.

Good night, dear sir. And good god, dear gentlemen.

Just food for thought... Due to NHL injury policy , the following is just pure speculation based on the facts. Ellis injuries were Knee injury (possible ACL/MCL ) four years ago ( in NHL stanley cup finals , with unlucky pirouette... Followed by a concussive elbow from Corey Perry... And this year a head to head collision that required some kind of upper body surgery ( also unknown, we can speculate based on time missed about 2 months ( maybe upper extremity or clavicle injury)and possible concomitant concussion. I am unsure these qualify as "breaking down" or age related... Thanks
- sdm007

Yes, I think his latest injury involved a shoulder surgery. No, I don’t see his injuries as a breakdown age or otherwise. He returned to form in the playoffs most recently. Rather, I think they are reflective of the rough sport and his very engaged playing style. My opinion only fwiw.

Looking at this trade is a matter of perspective. If as a fan, you want the team to get better now, then this trade accomplished that. No doubt. The Flyers got the best player in the trade. They got a RH legit top 4 puck moving defenseman who is solid defensively. They got Provorov a partner.
The question is how much better did they get? In the long term, what would've been better for the Flyers? If I felt this team was on the edge of truly contending and needed one more experienced quality defenseman to put them in the mix, I'd be all over this deal. However I don't feel they're there. I think having Myers with the potential for what he could become was the better player for them moving forward. Now if you don't believe in Myers and don't think that he was going to become a player, then you would think the opposite and favor this trade. Time will tell. I also agree with those who are saying a move like this was inevitable. That is correct.

How is this rambling incoherence?
- PT21

The bolded statements are total bs and you know it. Many other moves can (and likely will) be made for both short and longterm benefits. The Flyers got better today, and they did not give up draft picks or prospects to do it (ie greater impact on longterm success).

I'm still hoping for big Sam Morin to show us something on the 3rd pair. We have seem to have written him off. I thought he looked solid in his limited role. 3rd pair is fine unless he gets outplayed in camp. Or traded.
- cdearth23

I also hope Morin stays. I really do think he can be solid on the PK. Sanheim really just doesn’t seem to be a great PKer, and I think that is okay. It’s great to have a guy to roll out after kills as well to get the puck heading the other way.

They could probably go with what they have now on defense. I just think they still tweak it. Plus it is unknown who goes in expansion or trade (Ghost).

The team had a pressing need to address the blueline. Fletcher went out and did so. Ellis will have an impact for certain. The ramifications of the trade will play out over the years to come. There will be those who will debate the pros and cons of this deal for months, but it’s water under the bridge now for myself. I can’t wait to see RE in a Flyers jersey, because if he makes the team better, that is what should count….can’t wait for the 21-22!

I just wouldn't have traded for Ellis in the first place. I guess management thinks this core is going to push for the cup? Ellis from 5 years ago on a 6 year term is good. Injury plagued Ellis at 30 years old with 6 years of term? No thanks. Now, Patrick for Glass? Yes.

If the idea is to tank, and not get better but try and get more prospects then this trade isnt for you. If you want to get better now, and try and be the best team we can be this year, then this is the trade for that.

Im sick of watching us suck, so i like trying to get better now. And we still have some young guys and prospects over the next couple years coming up

would people have been happier if it was patrick and our 1st round pick instead of meyers? Lots of potential at pick #13
- bradster

Anybody who doesn’t like this trade is wacked. This was a slam dunk of a trade. They got a high end top pair RHD at 6.25 for the next 5 years in which several will be very productive years. For Patrick who has a high ceiling with a large question mark and Myers who also has a fairly high ceiling with a moderate question mark.

I was hoping that it happened at the trade deadline although that didn’t make sense for either team then. This guy is really good. At 6.25 per year at what he brings. Wow! Bargain.

Go Fletcher. ME WANT MORE!

I'm not for tanking at all, purposely losing games has no place in sports. I'm an advocate of a proper rebuild.

You're correct, the fans who want to rebuild (not tank) won't like this deal.

Oh. This guy moves the needle. Your right about that. He is very smart. I’ve watched the Preds some and this guy is good. Smart reads. Moves the puck well. Can skate. Not big but plays a big game (he hits hard). Can play monster min on both PK and PP.

I’ve been driving this whole time and almost wreaked the car when my nephew sent me the text on the trade. I was all over the road. 😆

Chuck is on fire with this move. Protecting JVR and making JV the best player available raises the chance that JV could be taken

Have you seen this guy play? He is smart. His game is great right now. This guy is one of the best well rounded defenders in the league. He is a Vet but not close to a decline. And at 6.25 for what he brings. I’m telling you that this guy is a huge upgrade and solidifies this blue line.

Keep it in your pants, jeez. He's a top 4 d. Not Bobby Orr.

Hopefully he stays healthy and contributes for the duration of his contract. The management believes this team can win, I guess all we can do as fans is sit back and watch...or not, the product has been less than desirable for quite some time now.

Agreed. JVR was a good bet to get picked. Now the Kraken have less leverage. Not that they couldn’t grab a Braun or a Hagg. No way they take NAK. Braun is not the young guys they claimed to look for. So maybe Hagg but he brings very little to the table.

I think it is Ghost or JV now. I bet Fletch has something in the works. He wasn’t sitting on his hands.

Haha. Top four? Wrong. This guy is a top pairing on just about every team in the league. He is by far our best defender now. And I like Provy but Ellis is the real deal. Not a 2nd pairing guy.

This deadline deal had to be pushed by the Flyers. They can protect another forward (JVR). Vegas is excerpt from the ED. Preds still have a lot of good D that will most likely be exposed.

Gotta give Fletch some credit here. This trade moves the needle.

His injury history worries me. He has 6 more seasons at 6.25mil. I'm not a fan of paying someone that kind of money to sit in the stands for 15-30 games throughout the season.

I know it's not a popular opinion on here but I think our window has already closed. Ellis is here now so I'll support him and wish him the best. Just not the direction I was hoping for.
