what if meyers tops out as a 4D? Do we lose the trade then? - bradster
Hard to say, it depends what Ellis gives |

Is Provys cap hit high?
Meyers is definately one of the 2 worst regulars last year. Maybe you need a refresher of watching him stand beside the net and watch someone go by him and score - bradster
Yes. He's also 24 years old and hitting his prime. Anytime you want to break down game tape and see who really knows what is going on, let me know. Maybe you need some education. |

Patrick is so bad that the only reason he was in the lineup whatsoever last season is so that they can say he is healthy and some gullible team will take him as a risk in a trade. He is done for. If he wasnt drafted 2nd overall he would have been benched/scratched quite often last season. His niche in juniors was using his size and strength against the youngsters, it's obvious that he is not going to be using his size and strength anymore, especially not at the NHL level.
Also, Ellis isn't 30 something. He is just 30. That isn't old. That is just delusional to think being 30 is too old. - Richieattack18
Really? This is your argument? 30 is 30 something and with Patrick gone, regardless of how bad he was last season, that’s still a hole. A team that built a contender and I mean literally built a contender out of spare parts still sees Patrick as good enough to play. |

Looking at this trade is a matter of perspective. If as a fan, you want the team to get better now, then this trade accomplished that. No doubt. The Flyers got the best player in the trade. They got a RH legit top 4 puck moving defenseman who is solid defensively. They got Provorov a partner.
The question is how much better did they get? In the long term, what would've been better for the Flyers? If I felt this team was on the edge of truly contending and needed one more experienced quality defenseman to put them in the mix, I'd be all over this deal. However I don't feel they're there. I think having Myers with the potential for what he could become was the better player for them moving forward. Now if you don't believe in Myers and don't think that he was going to become a player, then you would think the opposite and favor this trade. Time will tell. I also agree with those who are saying a move like this was inevitable. That is correct. - MJL
what do you as meyers ceiling, because i like meyers, but i think ellis is ahead of what meyers potential is. So to me, this is a no brainer |

definately not from you, you dont even know how to construct a team. Wanting to keep marginal players for potential turning into a star over having a proven great player |

Myers has the potential to become as good of a player as Ellis is. Possibly even better. He has strong physical tools.

I just find it funny, if chuck didnt get a D, people would freak. Instead he traded our 2 worst players, for a #1 D and people freak. Thats why i asked would people feel better if they traded #13 pick instead?
Sure Meyers has potential, but i dont think that potential still is what ellis currently is, ellis has a good cap hit. Gets injured a little but if he didnt it wouldve cost us more. There is risk Ellis gets hurt, and risk meyers turns our to be what he was last year. I think its a good trade, its what we needed. Good job chuck. If anyone thinks we were getting ellis or seth jones for Jake, you are dreaming. Gotta give to get, and we didnt give much - bradster
My thoughts exactly. Remember when giving up Sbisa was a heartbreaking loss? Bruno st Jacques? To me, Patrick's ceiling is 2nd line center, and I give him a 25 percent chance of getting there. Myers ceiling is #4 d-man, and possibly a really good one at that.
Can't believe this got done without prospects or picks!
Now I'd like to see us get a #4 d-man who can clear the net to team with Sanheim, preferably one with a successful cup run on the resume.
After all, Dumba is staying put. Jones doesn't want to be here. Suter wants to go to a contender.
I'm content. |

Man I had and have hope for both of them but something was going give and this was about as cheap as it gets for a true D like Ellis. Sure he could be hurt but I rather have this than a big FA contract or trade Frost or York etc. |

I disagree on 3 things. I wouldn't label Myers as one of the 2 worst players. Ellis doesn't get injured a little. He gets injured a lot. Ellis cap hit is high. - MJL
What kind of cap hit did you think a top pairing RHD would be? |

I love that word. Potential. You are banking on something coming to fruition vs having that exact thing that you want right in front of you. |

Yeah but the comments don’t make sense. “With Patrick out of the way, now Frost can play”. Frost wasn’t being held back by anything. In fact, if Frost could stay healthy, I’m sure the coaching staff would have happily sat Patrick. Even when Frost was healthy, he wasn’t doing much. |

Frost is an unknown quantity. Anyone who says different is spitballing. He has a very small sample of NHL games. He's also had trouble staying healthy. Counting on him is foolish. |
