Excuse Parade. Hurt. Healthy, hurt, hurt.
- SuperSchennBros

Excuse parade? I’m honestly asking you what the injuries were, someone said a shoulder and that it. Generally curious at this point , he’s on our team now

He compared him to Gustafsson

No, I compared his O-zone starts to Gustaffson.

So if ghost goes who are we signing?

Montour
Savard
Barrie
Larson
Oleksiak(ld)
Ceci

Or maybe another trade?

- Peter Richards

If ghost goes, they need a 3rd pair LD and a shutdown RD that can play against upper lineup forwards. Regardless of if ghost goes or not, they need that shutdown RD.

Man this is a miserable board anymore..........This is a good day for Philly. We got a true top line RHD, kept our first round pick, Didnt get rid of any top prospects (I loved Myers potential but they could not wait through the learning curve) and Nolan is best with a new slate - Wish him the best, but at the days end giving up Myers who we signed as an FA and Patrick for one of the best possible available RHD's available - Jones was a nice option but seemed we were giving up more than that for him and likely just for a single year. I'm personally thrilled with this.
- GPerogie

Well said. I’m thrilled that we didn’t give up a package of TK and Sanheim for Jones. We kept the better of the two young guys on the back end and turned it into Ryan Ellis . Management was never going to let this team sit idle, very good trade for the Flyers.

So you don't think any of the D on ELCs are good enough to make the team? I can think of four of them that would be a trade up from Gostisbehere.

No. You tell me, doc. Whatever happened in Nashville can happen in Philadelphia. The current record of health isn’t good.

Well to be fair Jones is a 27 year old stud and Ellis 30 year old…good player.

You’re not taking into account that they are pulling the plug on the team. They got back young players with upside in Glass and Myers.
- ClaudeFather

They are actually not pulling the plug, else many other guys would have been traded. But lets say they were to address your argument. Because it would still mean that in that act of pulling the plug, Ellis was the 5th best option to retain.

Now ask yourself, why would an elite D man on an apparently reasonable contract end up being the 5th best D man to protect?

1. Are they getting rid of all older players? Not at all. Ekholm and Josi stay.

2. Is it because they are shedding $? Not at all, they have been close to a cap team for the past 3 seasons.

3. Is it because while he is their 5th best D in terms of $ value, he is actually a tremendous value? No. Then he would have been traded for better prospects/picks.

So why then? Because in today's times, his production to $/injury/age ratio is not a great bet.

Except for an over-eager team needing to fill seats in a post pandemic world.

Common, you tried to paint him as a declining defensive liability.

Dude is basically one of the best options they could have realistically acquired to fill the #2 hole.

With that said, I'm still not wild about the trade, since it's so near-term focused.

Does anyone remember, do the lists get revealed immediately, or do we ever find out? Potentially in the blog lol
- ClaudeFather

In this day of society media I'm sure they'll be leaked all over the place.

As it stands I dont like this trade but will hold judgement till I see how things play out further. Fletch must have something in the works to unload JVR or JK because we just lost about 3M in the little Cap Space we had. I think Myers will continue to grow and be a very solid NHL defenseman. As far as Patrick goes unless he grows a pair he will be gone from NHL shortly.

I think York maybe. But I think as another mentioned a second line rd will still be signed. York and hagg may split the time over the year with Braun as the partner. Sanhiem needs his. But guessing as if ghost is selected. If so am looking at free agency now. Savard Larson and montour I could see them go for.

I watched a few Nashville games last year. I read comments on their boards throughout the year.

My "eyes test", (for what its worth) and a significant fraction of posts there all suggested a very good player in decline.

And again, you cannot divorce the player from his contract and the current situation of the team he is coming to. There was no strategic sense whatsoever in this trade. No foresight, no patience, no thinking, just typical #flyerdumb.

ghost not getting claimed last year had nothing to do with no one wanting him. Its was the stretch drive for the playoffs and only a few teams could afford him without trading someone was also part of the issue
- bradster

Yes, he misspoke. What he meant to say is that no teams thought that claiming Ghost would make them better. That is more accurate.

Hakstol is the coach in Seattle. When he was in Philly he convinced defensive guru Rick Wilson to work with the defenders. Wilson got results from most of the players, but said the only player he could not help was Gostisbehere. There is no way Seattle him. Ghost is the new AMac. He will start the season in Lehigh Valley, the press box, or in another team's press box.

Just seeing the trade now. Fine with losing Patrick. Don’t love losing Myers as I think he has a lot of potential. Gotta give to get I guess though.

Braun plays 2RD and Hagg plays 3RD and PK unless Wylie beats him out. That's probably not happening until after the olympic break.

I kind of think that well be trying to sign someone along with this move. Is Ellis your top flight number one dman? I’m not sure. Do you try to get suter for like 1 mil to play second pair?

As of now, it's gonna be tough just to re-sign Sanheim and pay two goalies.

A lot hinges on how much salary Seattle takes.

They can't afford to sign another veteran D unless they can dump one of their overpaid younger players to make room. And this team has bigger needs. They still only have two NHL centers, and that had a lot to do with the team defense and Couturier getting ground down by all of those minutes.

From what his numbers and history indicates, he is a #1 caliber defenseman or at the very least, a top-pairing guy.
