It's nice to see the Flyers board has devolved into a tallest midget contest once again. All is back to normal! |

Fletcher did what GM's are suppose to do.
Move out players who are not developing. Who are flawed. You hold onto some. Like Farabee and Provorov. Move out others, like Patrick and Myers.
Trading younger players is part of building a team. Not all of these 'prospects' were going to be here their entire career.
People do know this? Right?
Moving them out so the next generation slides in. York and Zamula will now be worked into the lineup the next couple of seasons. As will Frost. Foerster. Maybe the 1st round pick this year(Sillinger? Who is also a center).
This is the natural progression of building a team. - Captain_Ahab
wait until york and zamula are in the nhl and we have to move a left D, people will freak lol

It was a who cares joke because we didn’t get screwed there. - SuperSchennBros
Zhitnik was quite a bit older. Ellis still has 3-4 good years ahead of him.

Oh my god, Patrick and Myers had one bad season along with most of the team. Carter had a bad season as well, what’s your move? - SuperSchennBros
1 bad season? how many good seasons have they had?

Ok but for how long? This isn’t a now process, it’s an on going moving forward process. - SuperSchennBros
I think we can get at least 4 solid years out of Ellis. It's not like he has an absurd cap hit. For a 1st line dman he has an extremely team friendly price. |

Great deal for flyers!
Meyers is not nhl ready
Patrick brings 0 to the table
Ellis is a top 2 dman locked in for 6 years at a below market value cap hit |

Patrick missed a entire season and came back looking so bad, that people were screaming that he should be pulled from the lineup. His play was so poor, even Nashville got rid of him 2 seconds after the trade. Also signals Frost will be worked into the lineup. Couturier, Hayes, and Laughton are the other centers.
Myers took a major step back last season. He had one decent season. That's not enough to hold onto him.
Also, the Flyers have other young defensemen who are being cycled up the the NHL roster soon. Such as York and Zamula.
There is always a 'next generation' that is moving up the ladder.
Besides, if the Flyers keep the 13th pick they can replace a young center in Patrick, with, a young center in Sillinger.
This is the circle of life in team building. Young players were always going to be moved out. Even Hextall was going to do this with his 'go time' line. |

In terms of Myers, he is a young defenseman who has played 115 NHL games. That is not a lot for a defenseman. He had a down year last year but I would disagree that he is not developing. Development of players, especially young defenseman is rarely linear. - MJL the 24 yr old is developing, but the wrong way or we wouldve kept him lol

We’ve seen this movie before. Once Ellis gets his photo taken in a Flyers jersey these bums will dust off their trusty knee pads.
If AMac was a top 4 D man, argued to the moon and back over half a decade, Ellis is surely on his way to the HOF. |

Protecting JVR makes this a good deal because A) I want him on the team and B) it increases the chance that Seattle takes Jake off our hands - black_francis

If anything this trade has all but guaranteed that this board will female dog about literally anything. We could trade for McDavid and people would be pissed at his cap hit. |

Yes, Myers may or may not figure it out but this defense needed someone to stabilize it. We could not go into next season with that same D core or with a plug. |

Ha! What was your expectation for Phil Myers who was never drafted but still made it to the NHL. I can’t wait for this response because he’s a top 4 defenseman. |
