That would be incorrect. He's one of the few play driving wingers that the Penguins have but okay.
- j.boyd919

Lol yeah that was a weird complaint. His xGF trailed only Gaudreau and was just ahead of the Crosby line. xGA put him right with the members of the Blueger line. Best xGF% on team. Literally drove play at both ends.

I think if you are going to expose McCann, you try to get at least a pick for him. I can't see how he isn't worth at the very least a 3rd round pick.

I don't really wanna lose McCann, nope. For the longest time now this scenario hasn't even crossed my mine.. I just figured he'd be protected

Interesting Tweet of the day

In the NHL, 13 players have signed contracts with average cap hits over $10M/season. Carey Price just became the first one to win a playoff series while making $10M/season.

Buffalo Boy were you ever in a fight in your life? You talk like a sissy. Tanev does a great job. McCann disappears when it counts

That's a dumb trade for Detroit. Paying a 2nd and Panik retained at 50% for Leddy makes no sense.

I have a feeling we will make a trade before the freeze tomorrow. I know JR would have made at least 2-3 by the freeze. I think teams will shop players to get something for their players.

Rossi revised his list and now says he believes Carter will get the last spot, not Tanev. Also says Hextall is keeping things very close to the vest and doesn’t feel like his sources know much. So essentially he’s reporting nothing.

Leddy either had a very down year or just isn’t good anymore. 5.5 cap hit as well I thought they would be paying to get rid of him not getting a 2nd back. Maybe Pettersson has 2nd round + value!?

For once, I hope TIOPS is correct and the Kraken take Zucker. I wonder if the trading picks up after the expansion draft, once teams lose a player and need to fill the gap.

Weird thing with McCann offensively is he's been under-whelming as a 3rd line scorer, but when he's been asked to step into a top 6 role or more PP time with injuries he's been very productive.

And with Malkin out long-term, it's nice to have a guy who filled in for him so well on the PP last year and even at 2C the year before. Most people forgot because he went so cold after but he maintained at a 30 goal pace for 3 months while Malkin then Crosby were out and they needed him at 2C.

We've discussed this before about McCann. He gets hot and looks like a world beater for a short time then drops off the charts.

McCann has one year left on his contract, he's getting paid over his cap hit. He'll most likely want a raise. I can see why Hextall would expose him. If he goes fine, if he doesn't, that's fine too. Don't be surprised when his name starts popping up on trade rumors.

That’s every middle six winger though. If it wasn’t, they’d be top 6 wingers with higher production.

Ya, he also said Desmith over Jarry and Cody ceci over Matheson.

As long as he's being paid as a middle six winger, that's fine. His current salary has him as a second line player. Any raise would put him in the top six category.

Don't forget, he got most of his PP goals against back up goaltenders. Give him credit, he did what he was supposed to do, but these teams were just playing out the season.

The only reason I would protect him over Tanev would be because McCann is much younger, and this is a young man's game.

On the other hand I was listening to Josh Yohe the other day, he made the point Pittsburgh needs more Tanev's not less. I tend to agree with that statement. Again, if they lose McCann fine, if not that's fine too.

Have Malkin waive his clause and make a public statement that he will go back to Russia if chosen in the expansion draft. Then you shouldn’t have to protect Malkin or Carter and there’s two more spots on the list. Protect McCaan and Tanev.

He's not getting paid like a 2nd liner. Middle six is 3.5-4m these days. Top 6 is over 5m. Don't bother using guys who signed deals before they broke out as comparisons.

As far as a raise, worry about that next year. If he's getting a raise they can't pay, he's probably worth something in a trade.

Losing McCann will hurt, but I remember someone saying the Pens may be in on Jarnkrok from NSH, so that would make sense if they plan on losing McCann. Hextall values players who can play both C and W.

Fingers still crossed they take Zucker, Matheson or Pettersson.

I don't want them to take Pettersson. I think we can use him for some sort of return in a trade. Aren't we protecting Pettersson? We have to protect 3 D so you gotta think it's him with Marino exempt.

Well... 4 more hours for trades left. Interested in seeing if anything happens. It's so strange not having JR, Hextall is definitely more patient and doesn't let any info get out there. Those two couldn't be any more different.

While I'd love to see a move that gets us a defenceman worth a protection spot I expect we will hang tight and Zucker will be taken.

I do agree with you actually. I think Pettersson has good value, but I'm just thinking from a cap relief standpoint. I would much rather they take Zucker or Matheson. I'm also not opposed to them keeping Pettersson although I know a few people here who would vehemently disagree.

If McCann is exposed I think he becomes the most attractive piece from the Pens, but again, it all comes down to what other players are made available to Seattle. That said I have a hard time thinking a middle six center/winger making less than $3M is something they pass on.

Since we essentially have a spare D slot available, I was wondering if Hexy would make some kind of deal for a D that somebody can't protect. Obviously needs to be a plan. Maybe you flip that player later for a draft pick or prospect after this.

Sign Suter haha

Edit: actually don't do that. Just protect Pettersson and package him in a trade. And if we can't it's not a big deal. It would be so nice if Seattle can take Zuck or Math.
