islanders traded a dead body and draft picks to arizona and got NOTHING back? How in the world is that not circumventing the cap. Philly trades chris pronger, toronto trades david clarkson, tampa hides 18 million on LTIR, islanders have boychuck suddenly retire, are the devils the only team forced to play by the rules?

It'll be for "future considerations" which is allowed under the CBA.

Which is the dumbest most ambiguous term in existence. It’s worse than “lower body injury”

It would be something if we got Hamilton. After all these years.. the whole Hamilton/Larsson debate at the draft, and we end up with both.

This isn't circumvention at all. Salary dumps have been fully legal.

Look back at the time NJ traded Malakhov to the Sharks with a first round pick for... you guessed it... "future considerations", which is the hockey trade version of "absolutely nothing"

So along with the news that Tarasenko is being exposed in expansion, the Blues beat writer said the Devils were one of the few teams that had trade talks trying to acquire him, that were also willing to take on his full cap hit. But Armstrong didnt find a suitable return

..well we tried. 2 more seasons at 7.5. He must've really fallen off to not be worth that to St. Louis. Curious what their plans are. Depending on how they manage this offseason, they could be a bottom 10 or top 10 team. Interesting they're losing him for nothing instead of trying to get something in a trade. Maybe things didn't workout with 1 team after another, thinking they'd get something with the next team and then just ran out of time? strange.

Yeah very strange, just seems like really poor asset management from them. He requested a trade and has been incredibly frustrated with their medical team, to the point where he expanded his 10 team trade list to accept a trade "basically anywhere" just to get out of there. So fully knowing he wont play for them again, Armstrong continued to hold firm on their high asking price and nobody paid up. Now i guess he gets taken for free

I assume Seattle will take him, but Dunn is also very intriguing too

Don't know the exact details of his no-trade but maybe he didn't want to waive to come here. But yeah, seems weird all around. Maybe they figure they can still trade him later.

The report said Tarasenko asked for the trade over 2 months ago, and originally gave a 10 team list he would go to. But after all this time he grew frustrated that hadn't been moved yet and told Armstrong he "just wanted out and will essentially go anywhere." So it seems like Army was just being a Richard and wouldnt take less than whatever his asking price was

If they figure they could still trade him, wouldn't they have protected him to trade him after expansion? Lol, now they risk losing him for completely nothing in return

Senko certainly wasnt at the top of my trade list forward-wise of the guys we have been linked to so im not disappointed we couldnt work something out, but thats just incredibly poor asset management from the Blues

Only thing I can think of is that teams were asking him to take money back, but yeah very weird scenario. Blues don't trade a lot in general though. can't get beat if you never trade.

Yeah there were some teams wanted salary retained, but there were also multiple teams who were willing to take on the full salary. Those teams were NJ, Boston, LA, and Carolina

Tarasenko would’ve been interesting with Hughes or Hischier. Oh well. Still pumped about Graves haha. Hope Fitz can snag another big W with Hamilton... 9mil for 8 years? Seems fair right?

Yeah that seems about what it'd cost for us, except 7 years. Unless you think it'd be a sign and trade with Carolina prior to free agency for the extra year.

The next week and a half or so after the trade freeze should be interesting. Could have as much as 2 more D, a top 6 winger, and a vet goalie all added to the roster if Fitz lands everything on his check list

Will be very interesting to see what the goalie market looks like. Habs exposing Price assuming Seattle won't want to pay the $11 mil bonus he's owed might shake up everything, especially since a lot of people thought Vegas were going to lose one of their guys.

Vegas is definitely going to lose one of their goalies at some point this offseason. They're heavily rumored to be in on Eichel, and clearly need help at center, so they will need to clear some cap space. Goalie is the easiest way for them to do so, as both guys are desirable

Have a hard time seeing either waiving to go to Buffalo. Would be awesome to get Lehner but also don't see him waiving to come here. Or Fluery either. Would be sorta insane if Montreal lose Price to Seattle then picks up one of Vegas's goalies.

I never said they would be going to Buffalo. Fleury has a 10 team no trade and Lehner only an 8 team no trade. Seems pretty likely most of those teams are the Canadian teams and Buffalo/Arizona. Idk where they end up, but one of them will be moved.

We've been rumored to be interested in Lehner and had contact with Vegas about him. So we'll see. Gonna be a lot of movement around the league after the freeze.

If we can somehow reach a Hamilton deal (extremely unlikely, I see him staying in Carolina and signing shortly after the expansion draft) and can sign or make a move for a scorer we could be in decent shape if we also have a reliable back up

Sharagoalvic Hughes scorer
Zacha Nico bratty
Johansson ? Holtz?
Wood McLeod Bastian

Greer Hamilton
Severson smith
Subban siegenthaler

Granted who knows who Seattle picks up

You got your severson, smith, subban, siegenthaler on their opposite sides : )
I just hope they don’t try Zacha at center again. That ship has sailed. He’s not the guy. I think they sign a Ufa for the middle. Mercer could be ready next year.. but he could also be multiple years away. Kuokkanen may also be one of those RWs. Holtz could make it, but we’ll see. Foote could also be that 3rd line LW of Johnsson is picked Wednesday. Idk. We technically have the bodies to fill the roster, but could use an upgrade, and wouldn’t hurt for the kids to be in the minors like the good ol days.
It’s going to be very interesting. Hamilton is the big fish. Tarasenko would’ve been nice lol, but we shall see. Wonder who they want up front. The more I look at this roster, the more I’m okay with a Guenther pick.. especially if we get Hamilton. Graves is young, Smith is younger, Hamilton is 28 .. with hopefully several productive years remaining.. draft a Gaborik or Rafalski?

Extremely happy they protected Sharangovich and McLeod over Johnsson.

If I had a guess I'd say Butcher is Seattles pick and since he didn't seem to be someone Ruff wanted to use in any situation it won't affect the team going forward. Will be very interesting if they take Subban though. That would put us around 19 million under the floor with very little needed to be resigned.
