Are you sure you don't mean Nemeth? None of them were any good when it counted most. I'm sure you're going to get a lot of help from Graves but I'm just saying don't be surprised when he botches it up when the Devils make the playoffs. - ddMoose
So none of them were good, but then you single out Graves? Makes total sense.
And no, i definitely mean Girard. Dude was nonstop flamed during, and after, that series for how badly be played |

Is there a rule against singling out a player when that player is already the subject of the discussion? Makes total sense.
That's cool, like I said he wasn't the only one. I get that it's important to paint your new acquisition in a positive light, that's fine, but if you were watching the series the way you suggest that you did then you should probably already be aware of what Graves is capable of. |

Gotcha, so one series completely cancels out the rest of the sample size and thats is what hes gonna be going forward? Guess Girard is (frank)ing garbage then too. Except only one fits your a narrative and the other doesnt though. Sounds stupid, huh?
Im fully aware of what Graves is, hes a solid middle pairing defensive D that is a shooting machine, he skates very well for his size and he likes to try to jump into the play when given the opportunity. He was also borderline elite at rebound generation off of his shots(32nd in the entire league among all Fs and Ds). He is the perfect fit for what this teams needs and fills a big hole. How he played in that series doesnt change anything, because like you said, the Avs as a whole were complete trash |

What sample size? I mean you obviously follow the Avs pretty religiously, tell me all about it. If you're going to bring up the shiny +/- from last year though, can you spare us? Thanks.
What's my narrative? My only narrative coming in here was that I was happy about the trade. He was a turnover machine and helped earn loss for the team. He wasn't a big scary physical defenesman when he needed to be. He wilted when put on the same stage with Reeves. Then you got all pissy pants because you already know your shiny new toy isn't what you hope it is. You're clearly coping about something, but I mean I guess I can't blame you. What the hell else are you going to have to talk about around here except the future? |

Quality trade... but Mussa and Woo still rank high in the worst bloggers in blog history. You guys really suck. - Banana_Hammock
Better than no bloggers though! But yeah, solid trade. Gonna be a nice boost for our top 4. Nothing to dislike about it |

What poop did I come in here to talk? You've got a stick shoved so far up your ass I have a feeling it's been there for about 20 years. Look at the way you're typing. Is that a Twitter meme? You're practically in hysterics because I'm happy to get a 2nd round pick and a bottom 6 forward for a turnover machine and wilting flower come playoff time. You gotta relax man, this poop is not good for your blood pressure. |

Gotta figure the team is done now until after the expansion draft. So while we're still expecting more moves, i don't think anything else will happen until the entry draft and free agency or later.
Im glad we got a move done and were able to atleast take some advantage of an expansion casualty though, and Graves was my top target along with Dunn on the back end. Would've been incredibly boring going into the four-day trade freeze having done nothing, and barely having any rumors about us lol |

Very solid deal! Graves is the type of guy this team has been trying to draft for the past 2 or 3 years, and he checks a lot of boxes for what Fitz said was the biggest need for this team. Cant really find anything to dislike about it. It also clears up the expansion protection, because we dont need to decide between Subban and Butcher anymore, since both will be exposed. Severson, Siegenthaler, and Graves are the 3 D to be protected
Theres still another D add to be had at some point this offseason but as of right now we're looking at something like:
Smith-Sevo
Graves-Subban
Siegenthaler-??
Hopefully we can somehow land a top 4 RHD(pipe dreams of Dougie) so we can drop Subban to the 3rd pairing. Honestly i dont hate that top 4. Its slowly getting there - vlongo4419
He's more of what we need than Murray. Right now we have 4.5 NHL dmen, and it's a beautiful thing. Wonder if they leave that final spot open for a youngster like Walsh or if they go UFA. Graves is a young 26 entering his prime. Love this move.
only thing.. if these left D continue to develop as planned.. it leaves no room for Bahl, unless Smith moves to the right, where we know he's played before.

Ok Suter can still play yes and won’t cost a lot, Ok l can buy that but Leadership and mentoring are not something you would want him doing. Unless you want to teach young players to run to the owner to complain about things every time he doesn’t get his way. - Dropthepucknotgloves
this doesn't surprise me in the slightest. i was really happy when he signed elsewhere. |

Definitely agree, and he's just a better fit overall for the system this team wants to play. Im assuming Fitz will add another vet D through free agency, but i wouldnt rule out another trade as well around the draft. We still have the Isles pick in play, and that could be packaged for more help on the blue line too(or maybe a forward?)
We'll need the depth anyway in case of injury, ect. So I'm definitely expecting another D to be brought in, and im totally fine leaving all of the young D in the AHL for another full season |

This is really the right approach. The AHL defenders who look ready can get opportunities to play in the NHL due to injury. This has happened every season. You don't have to leave slots open and then hope they can play in the NHL.

Some quotes from Fitz in his post- trade interview:
-Said this trade didnt just happen out of nowhere, Graves is someone hes been targeting for close to 2 years and has been talking to the Avs for a while
-"We're not done. I want to improve this team. My ownership has given the green light to do what we need to do, without sacrificing our future". Went on to mention that this includes using our cap space.
-Say hes still working the phones with other GMs for other possible moves. "Time is an ally, so im going to use it"
-Says other teams knows about our cap luxury and have floated ideas
-A bunch of other quotes about wanting/needing to surround guys like Jack, Nico, and Ty with good players, and how its time to start playing meaningful games and taking the next step |
