Some quotes from Fitz in his post- trade interview:

-"We're not done. I want to improve this team. My ownership has given the green light to do what we need to do, without sacrificing our future". Went on to mention that this includes using our cap space.

-Says other teams knows about our cap luxury and have floated ideas

Feels like we've been talking for years about how we could use our cap space as a weapon to acquire assets. Glad that Fitz has been given the green light to make stuff happen. This is definitely the year to do it too.

Happy to see him go. He was a turnover machine in the playoffs and part of what sank the Vegas series. Probably would have been satisfied with a handful of pucks just to get the cap space, but the 2nd round pick is a great return. Does Maltsev have any kind of future?
- ddMoose

Maltsev is good but a 4th liner with limited O .. 2nd round pick is late almost 3rd rounder.

Graves led league in plus minus ,is 26 , and hits ,top PK pairing for colorado...

Great trade for NJ .

This is more of an expansion draft panic than it is a cap crunch. Graves was used as a top 4 D, and his cap hit is a very reasonable amount. Maybe bringing in Graves could help lure Saad over as well? Regardless, Happy with this move, and happier to see Fitz is shaking some trees. Hoping there are more deals to be made, but I consider this move an immediate win for the Devs. Graves ticks off every box that the Devs are lacking on the backend.

A great trade for NJ, a decent trade for the AVs that were about to lose Gravey for nothing to Seattle. Hey, I'll take a 2nd/Prospect than nothing any day of the week

He also finished 9th in the league in stick checks. I can’t remember the other stats but he was top 44 in loose pucks retrieved or something like that. Some other stat was top 35 I think. He’s exactly what we needed.

Wonder if Nashville will look to deal Ellis. 6.25 steal of a cap hit from now at age 30 until end of 26-27, 36. We need a top pair right dman with some experience. Hamilton is 2.5 years younger, is better offensively, will cost a ton more, isn’t as good defensively (I think? Idk the numbers), and I’m not sure of his intangibles for the room.

Yup 9th in the league in Dzone stick checks, 44th in lose pucks recovered, 34th in puck batte wins, 28th in Dzone entry denial rate, 52nd in blocked shots, and 21st in xGA. All among 171 D with atleast 500 minutes at 5v5. Not too shabby, definitely fills a big need

Me too. Im excited about what will come after the expansion draft too. Sounds like we're set on adding atleast 1 more D, maybe even 2 more, and a vet goalie to split with Mac. And we are also checking around in the forward market as well

Sharks trade for Adin hill. Wonder if we'll see a couple more trades trickle in at the last minute. Seems that the market was set 2nd and a prospect for contracts being left unprotected.

Pretty nutty trade here. I like this a lot for Nashville who really need to move out contracts and just redo the team at this point. Flyers committing to competing. Just don't really think Ellis gets them there. And a lot of years on that contract for a guy who is now 30.

Yeah i think both Nashville and Philly win big in this trade. Idk why Vegas is moving out Glass for Patrick but they're the clear loser here. Nashville gets 2 solid young players/prospects and the Flyers get an elite top pairing D, the last couple of years may suck on his contract but its a great move for the next 3 or so years. I like it for both of them

Ellis is really good, don't want to make it seem like I think he's bad. Just a huge contract to take over and then protect.

I like Nashville's side of this the most for sure. I'd like to see Glass play some top 6 minutes and see what he can do.

No clue what Vegas is doing in this trade. Seems just like a trade down in asset quality for no discernable reason.

Yeah maybe the contract is going to suck for the last 2 or so years, but i'd be willing to bet that Ellis bounces back and they get atleast 3 elite years of it. For what the Flyers gave up, its a no brainer to me. And hes a better add than Seth Jones, whom the flyers were heavily rumored to be in on

Agree all around with the Nashville and Vegas points

I would’ve accepted Ellis here with open arms. But we got our Graves and would’ve had to expose one of Sev or Seigen. Yada yada. He makes Philly a lot better. They didn’t add another Mayfield or whatever.. but a legit top pair Ellis.

I really think they hand Dougie a blank check and make the highest bid, no matter what. And it'll just be a matter of if he wants to come here or not. Fitz talked a lot about how disappointed they were in the D last season and want to essentially revamp the D. Graves is the start, and i think atleast one more D is brought in, but could be 2 more either via trade or FA

We'll have to see what all of the protected lists look like before we can sorta tell, but a lot of teams are still going to have to move out contracts to make room. And there are a good amount of teams that will want to shed to be active in free agency too. Think there is still a lot of space for us to make moves even if we aren't active for big name in the open market.

How good is he defensively though? Smith and Severson are or projected to be average at best. Graves is good, Seig we hope will be good. I feel like we need to find another gem that can really hold it down defensively. We do need another offensive D, but I don’t want to throw the sink at Dougie if he’s meh in our own end.

He is fine defensively. Pair him with Graves and you have a very good pairing there. Hes an elite #1 D and arguably the best offensive D in hockey, atleast top 5. If you can get him, especially without giving up assets, you dont pass on that opportunity

Now in saying all of this, i still dont think he comes here even if we throw the house at him and outbid everybody else. But it surely seems like Fitzy is going to try
