Now is the time for Stevie to nab someone before the Kracken takes all the cream that has risen to the top!

THE ATHLETIC: Max Bultman cited colleague Craig Custance reporting teams believes Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman is open to trading Tyler Bertuzzi. However, he’s not in a hurry to move the 26-year-old winger. Bertuzzi is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights. So far, there have been no contract discussions but that’s not uncommon among their notable RFAs right now.

There was speculation the Maple Leafs had an interest in Bertuzzi as a possible replacement for Hyman. Detroit Hockey Now’s Kevin Allen doubted he’ll be traded unless the Wings get an offer too good to refuse. He’s expecting the Wings will re-sign him.

That’s more than fair assessment wise. I guess I should rephrase. With the number of 1st round picks they want and where this team will finish, it may not be the best fit. Eichel needs a more positive atmosphere (like when ROR went to STL). He’s tired of losing and this isn’t the best spot if he’s sick of rebuilds.

Eichel is going to put butts in the seats, at least short term, but if the Wings got him and he didn't return to super star form, it would set their rebuild back a decade. It's too much of a risk.

This isn’t swinging for the fences but maybe Detroit could score some youth from Toronto for Burt?
Pontus Holberg - Forward
Timothy liljegren - Defense
Plus ??
Build the youth form a gelled group, if you are to bring in a vet, he needs to be a teacher like Kieth will be in Edmonton.

Detroit can not afford a 37 yo $5.5M teacher!
They have to either be much cheaper or have a big sweetener accompany him to have someone like Keith.

I wouldn't trade Bertuzzi for those guys even if they added a 1st rounder. I would want two or more of Sandin, Amirov, Robertson, Abramov and Der-Arguchintsev. Their first round picks are likely 20 or later so not great picks to be a main part of a deal.

I don't really want Bertuzzi to be traded but if he is, it better be a great return and not just weak prospects, spare parts and a late first rounder.

Not gonna lie, this is the first trade that Yzerman has made that I do not like.

I dont mind Leddy, I think hes still good, hes 30 and maybe a little overpaid at 5.5 but worth having on the roster. I also think this years second round pick really isnt worth much and if i had to gamble id say whatever player is picked at #52 likely wont be better than Leddy. The Retaining on salary of Panick is what bothers me. If thats the only way to make the deal then I would have rather not done it.
