why is that funny? - bradster
Why wouldn't it be? They drafted him, put time into his development. Then he tells them to pound sand. Be a sad type of funny.

I don't know why we aren't talking about what atrocious contract we are going to offer Suter. Cuz we all know it's coming. |

I can see 4 years as that is what he had left. Say 5.5 per.
Depending on the term he can def help. No question about that.

I would have been more worried if he shot right.... we have Provorov, Sanheim, York, Hagg on that side....

Ok I understand what you are saying, but the key word is interspersed, isn't it? Your chances of finding that high potential player would be much higher picking 2nd though... - PT21
Dunno, Flyers haven't had the best luck picking high.
Probably because their competitive advantage has always been finding character/competitive/jaded players in the mid/late rounds, but when they're in a position to just go for no-brainer, most talented, most naturally gifted, they end up with underwhelming results. Also doesn't help that they always seem to only pick high in weak draft years, too.
I really don't want to see them wasting their assets to move up this year. |

not at all, watch this video when he was selected:
https://www.nhl.com/flyer...19/t-277437426/c-60647203
Watch Hextall's reaction, it looks like he is the cat that got the canary. - jd250
God I hate watching that video. I have absolutely no problem with the pick. What pissed me off is a swing for the fences type pick that you make sometimes.
Why the (frank) he not swing at 2 with miro or makar or even Petterson. |

Suter is only losing around 3.3m of salary from his contract. 2 yrs at 3m per would easily make up his loses and more. |

Hopefully we just present our list and let them pick one - my bet is still they take Braun for his leadership - Bayareaflyer
Agreed I think they take Braun for leadership or Jvr for cap and scoring star power. Also Jvr actual $ paid less than cap. I think they go one of those ways |

From a quick look at the last 10 years it seems the Flyers have the best luck picking (1st round at least) when a player falls to them that others skip over. When having to make a decision that is when they tend to have "hiccups". |

Right now Suter is better than 3 of those 4. Depends how the GM views things. You can do a lot worse than Suter.

It also depends on the type of team Francis wants to build. One thing for certain is he won't be selecting players like all the mock drafts are done, it's not like he is picking the best player he considers leftover from each team. He is trying to fulfill requirements, assets for flipping and in the other cases players he thinks will fit the identity of the team he wants to build.
My personal belief is JvR fits that bill, either with his size and PP abilities or possibly retaining some of his salary then sending him to another team for assets he feels works better. Fielding a team of low cost depth players is going to get him no where and there is an abundance of those. |

Honestly I'm on the fence about Suter (depending on term and money). He's not the player he was in the past, that's pretty evident, but his locker room presence and experience could be very useful.
FYI: Carlo re-signs with Boston 6 yrs 4.1m cap. Not sure that is good or bad, but it will play a role in re-signing Sanheim. |

I’d tweak your statement a little. When they go for the no brainer it’s NEVER the most talented, most naturally gifted, it’s always the safe pick. They 200 foot supposed player. That’s why they end up with underwhelming results
Example :nopa
Miro makar Petterson |

If they want to "contend" now go after Suter. If not then don't. I just dont see him coming here unless a massive overpay. I can see him trying to stick it to the wild and signing in division. |

Dunno, JVR wasn't exactly a 200-ft player. Pitkanen either. If what you said was true, they would have taken Turris and Ryan Whitney.
The only time they really went safe recently that stuck out to me was Provorov over Werenski. |

Laughts was late-round tho. We're talking top of the draft.
Not to mention the alternative would have been Maatta or Gaunce, both really safe picks as well. |

I was referring more to hexy swinging. He showed ability to swing on O’Brien pick. Didn’t show it on nopa pick. Each gm different. Idk maybe I’m just forever soured. I really wanted miro. I was at draft in Chicago. Lol actually have pics of nopa in flyers jersey right next to me. I was in a line of fans by the team buses after draft where draft table goes to get on buses. When hexy walked by I told him “hey you should’ve taken miro “ he just smiled at me and waved and kept walking. |

I don't really consider Patrick a safe pick. If the Flyers didn't draft him the team would of been flamed for it, but fans/media would of gotten over it once everything we know got out.
The only problem I have with the pick is the known history and character of Patrick. The Flyers went out of their way to state that none of it was an issue, so now we know that either they were full of poop or extremely incompetent. |

Top 10 of Provys draft was also can’t miss, see New Jersey. I was happy with Provorov at the time and can’t really complain much. I don’t think Werenski is a better player than him, tough to judge since they have different styles. |
