Question: “ what lessons did you learn from the Vegas draft”? CF: “ Not much...” I honestly haven’t read anything more after that quote. No need to. What a disappointing comment.

My take of between the lines of CF presser:

Don't expect all the burdensome contracts to be moved. (There is a flat cap. Teams are unwilling to take on big contracts. "We will do the best we can.")

Having said that, do expect some significant changes. He says the draft has no generational players but there is top end talent and depth, and yet says he is more willing to move it than past years, especially if he can make the club better. Also says: "There's going to be hopefully some exciting additions to our club over the next couple months."

Translation: not a bottom lines/bottom pairing upgrade but more significant than that. This means (because of cap) at least one of Voracek/JVR is gone for sure.

Is your number one draft pick in play for a trade or do you plan on keeping it?

BF: Depends on who you ask.

CF: Yeah, Brent wants me to keep it.

I think Seattle takes JVR. He only has one more year after this year. If Seattle eats half his salary they would get a nice return for him in a trade at the deadline this year or in the offseason next year. He is a consistent goalscorer. Any team can use that at $3.5mil.

Gotta be honest. I'm not really interested in anything Fletcher has to say at this point. I want to see action and lots of it! This team was dreadful to watch this past season and it needs to be fixed! It's one thing to lose games, but an entirely different story when you lose as a boring and passive hockey team. Thanks!!

Looking at the league and teams potential protection list, JVR is one of the better players that will likely be exposed. He has value to a team for sure. There are however other players who are equal. What will Seattle's approach be. How quick do they want to be competitive. That will all determine how likely they are to take a high cap hit player from the Flyers.

Agreed. I think Francis is a longterm approach type of GM. However, I do feel they need to have at least a little success initially. It would be a fun job to have I know that.

That would be my guess too. I saw good 2 way effort from him last year. He finished +2. I think he can still produce 30+ goals on a top line. He was on pace for about 25 goals and 56 points, not far from career highs.

And yes, trading him for picks/prospects would be a good idea if Seattle wants to reach floor and yet commit to youth.

Would JVR + this year 1st + say Myers for Seattle's 2nd be a feasible trade?

I had Seattle claiming him in the draft and then trading him to another team for futures. I would not offer a sweetener for Seattle to take him.

You are getting the 2nd back though. Its not just a salary dump.

If Chucky makes that kind of deal then he really did learn nothing.

I did find that statement odd. CF was fleeced last time around and has been paralyzed this time around afraid to make another mistake.

Ok fine, but look closely at the deal. They are taking JVR off our hands.

It boils down to Myers +13th for a 2nd. You wouldn't do the last?

You can get a guy like Eklund, the kind of creative, blue chip forward prospect so lacking in our system for our mid-level pick in a variable draft + a guy who was repeatedly scratched from the roster last year? Myers is fighting for his NHL life this year and it may not go the way you hope.

Oh, "a 2nd" means 2nd-overall? Less bat poop crazy, but still not a really advisable trade for either side.

Landeskog called out Avs for lack on contract talks and Dreger is saying the two sides are no where near a deal. If he hits FA AND we clear out cap through the ED, he could be an enticing signing. Plays a solid game

If you were expecting him to commit to anything, then the expectation is the issue. I was pleased with a lot of what Fletcher said and agree with his outlook on certain things. For example, I have said multiple times that it is important to react to what happened last season but to not overreact. Fletcher mentioned they have to be careful not to overreact to what happened last year. He is exactly correct on that.

I agree. We were all frustrated by the horrible season, but it was anything but normal. Div realignment, all other COVID factors that we don't necessarily see including the outbreak on the team.. Changes are def needed but we can't be making stupid moves that will kill us moving forward.

I agree but competitive or not they need goals for the fans, they need some excitement on the ice to match the launch. They need some goal scorers

So I am seeing that you simply want to jettison cap space and Myers and our 1st? I don't think that's wise and Seattle would most likely jump at it We only get a 2nd for a young right handed dman who can still likely be a top four guy?

Ah, you thought 2nd rounder. No, 2nd overall pick.

I can see Seattle demurring. But to us, it seems to me something worthy of consideration.

Remember the last two times the Flyers had the 2nd-overall pick in a relatively weak draft? Gross.

He essentially answered it further down by saying he’s totally comfortable with them just selecting a player and to let him know the ball is in their court. The comment was not an issue at all.
