NCAA players cannot sign before they're done school. The minute they sign, they lose their NCAA eligibility.

Yes, i know, but wasn't what i was talking about. I was talking about hoping that JOB signs here instead of becoming a FA like Kalynuk did

What did you mean by "it's nice to sign them before their schooling is up?"

I think he means to try and get them to leave early like York and Farabee did. But O'Brien isn't a guy I see leaving early and could be a guy they just don't offer a contract to. He needs to have a big year in my opinion.

im still pissed kalynuk split, would hate for a 1st rounder to do that. Its becoming more popular. That damn adam fox
- bradster

Fox was never a free agent. The Rangers traded 2 second round picks to the Canes for his rights.

give it a rest. You are always nitpicking. Its gets old.... But to entertain you, as i said, its nice to sign your college kids before they become a FA . As in when their schooling is completed, usually after the normal 4 years of school. Anything you want to nitpick with that?

Right, they had to trade him before he became a FA.

You're just looking to make corrections on what people say, that's what you do.

I don't know where you are getting this from. O'Brien took a step back to take 2 steps forward, and last year at BU I think many would consider his truly 1st collegiate season. He had a great year for BU under very difficult circumstances with Covid. The hope is he will have an even better sophomore season at BU and then will ready to join the Phantoms, like so many other players the Flyers have signed have done. O'Brien was a 1st round pick, not a late round pick, so the Flyers will have every intention of signing him.

Well, we are counting on him, he was a first round pick, and after Patrick and Rubstov, we need another one to come through

Was there ever a reason why he didn't want to sign with the Flyers? Is he from the Chicago area for example?
- jd250

Hockey decision, mostly. There's not a lot of established blueliners on that team and he had the opening to win a top-4 spot sooner than later. Original six, nice city to live in, recent success... that stuff doesn't hurt either.

I am putting my neck out here, but right now I am very confident O'Brien will be part of this team within 2 years and have a greater impact than either of these players. The reason I believe this is 1. he actually has talent, unlike Rubtsov and 2. he actually has guts to make a play, versus staying on the peripheral and relying on others like Patrick. O'Brien is Braydon Point size and has good speed and tenacity, but needs to bulk up a bit more before he is ready for the NHL. Not saying he is going to be as good as Point, only that he has some of the same qualities. Between O'Brien and Frost, at least one is going to have a big impact to this Flyers team. My hope is both will.

Bummer, because the Flyers are currently wide open on top 4 defense spots. Looks like he had a decent debut with the Hawks last season.

We’re going to find out what kind of GM Guerin is. He’s going to have a hard time keeping Kaprisov long term if he doesn’t get a center. He is hoping Rossi is the real deal and develops quickly.
- Minnyhock

Be patient with him. I dunno where you are from, but Minnesotans seem to be a patient lot: part Midwest, part Canada. *smile*

The moves he made are not for the short term. You cannot judge whether they are a success or not till 5 years down the line. These are franchise trajectory altering moves, and I commend your club for making them, even if they don't pan out.

Hope Rossi is healed and good to go next season. Looking forward to seeing if the hype is for real.

Here is another generalization of a group of people.

If it doesn't work out it is going to cost Guerin his job. They could be altering the franchise into a downward spiral. If that happens, it is nothing to be commended on. On paper, it doesn't look very smart.

I feel like the presser told us nothing. Chuck will make qualifying offers regardless if he says he will or not to on pending RFAs. He’ll use the pick, unless a deal that makes sense comes up. We all know this.
