Or you trade him and play the damn kids you drafted a couple years ago. It's time to see what they can do and Rust would bring big value to a team like Edmonton that overpaid for Duncan Keith. He has value particularly for futures. The solution is not in the free agent market unless it's cheap and looking for upside plays. We have plenty of wings. Time to move some.

I get the feeling he ends up in Washington. Most of the high end contenders are set on the blue line and I feel like there’s always a perception around the league that Washington are top tier contenders even when they’re not.

Holland about to give him 3 x 6m.

Suter and Parise are both being paid 6.7M for the next 8 years. I think we see Suter sign a friendly contract to go cup chasing.

Counting on overaged kids from the Q to jump in to the top line is not something you do during the last two or three so years of the Crosby/Malkin Era.

I’m saying that would be one of the teams he’d consider signing for next to nothing with.

From Russo “ The Wild will pay each $6.7 million over the next eight years and be charged with $2.371 million, $6.371 million and $7.371 million cap hits in the next four years, respectively, for each, then $833,333 cap hits the four years after that for each.”

Lou gonna get rid of Eberle and Leddy so Parise and Suter can keep their bunk beds.

Ah I see. Well he could have written that differently, seems a bit ambiguous.

I mean, 4.7 mill cap hit for nothing is crazy enough...but the years after? insane. McDavid+ cap hits....

They weren't overaged, but either way they aren't making that type of impact at the NHL level in some time, if ever.

They probably worried about cap recapture penalties too if they retired early.

Do you not count towards the overage player allotment per team if you turn 20 within the season?

That's a good point, never thought about it....but I thought that was only for players who sign contracts after 35?

On or before December 31st of that season. They both were just in their final regular season in the Q.

Nah that’s totally different. 35+ you’re on the hook no matter what. Cap recapture is for the long term deals that are front loaded. Aka they put a rule in place after a handful of GMs found a cap loophole to reduce the cap hit.

No I think it’s for players that sign contracts that take them past 35 years. I think Kovalchuck was like 27 when he signed the Jersey contract that sparked all this.

Either way they should lead the league in production by a mile if they are nhl ready.

Yah, that's why I said they won't have an impact and shouldn't be counted to have an impact. They both regressed in the regular season so their playoff performances were nice to see. They just definitely need time in the AHL first. I still don't think Poulin becomes more than a 4th liner and Legare is 50-50 to make the NHL as a regular.

Gotcha yeah we’re talking about January and February birthdays so while they’re not technically in overage years, they’re within the age range where production in the Q becomes a lot less impressive.

There’s only a few left that are cap recapture risks after these buyouts and only 1 of them is actually potentially bad.

Weber
Keith
Crosby
Carter
Quick
J Staal

Who besides Weber? Are you insinuating that Sid will retire before his contract is up? The rest of those guys only have one or two years of term left.

The Weber recapture would destroy Nashville
