I'd rather pay Suter $7.5M for the next 4 years than Pettersson or Matheson what they are making.
- MacPatty

I have no doubt you would.

People keep saying this, but it's far from a given. I use to think he was too, but we have no idea what other players will be available making Zucker a bad choice for Seattle.

I agree its far from a given, and we also need to see our protected list, but if not him, who do you think it will be? Teddy?

Yuuup! Plan was originally to only buy out Parise when the trade fell through… to keep everyone they want AND add Eichel Suter was needed to. Dumba currently is part of a large package with 2 1st and some other pieces.

Not saying it’s done as there is specifically 2 teams right in the mix for Eichel to. If they miss on Eichel they have a backup plan with that team directly involved.

- pens4life-66

Dumba and 2 firsts seems like an overpay for Eichel when you consider how much salary they are about to eat.

If Dumba is going to Buffalo the deal is probably Dumba for Eichel & Skinner. If they are trading away Dumba in the deal they wouldn't also need to buy out Suter.

Ya, I'm not suggesting we run with that either. I'm hoping Marino had a sophomore slump. Also, I haven't seen much of Dunn so idk how good he will be either.
Do you think Marino would be a good trade candidate or would that be silly considering he's only 24?

- nateca444

Tough call really. He's not untouchable to me, very few people are, but they don't have a replacement right now. Would like that first.

I honestly don't know and have stopped guessing. So much depends on what other teams make available. For all we know Pettersson or Matheson might be some of the better dmen available to them or are defensemen that simply make more sense to them. That's not wishful thinking, but while we think Blueger, ZAR or Zucker are the best players for them to take, so much hinges one what's available.

He has, but what he's reporting on has been well reported on. MIN very much wants Eichel, but this move does nothing to open space for him past this coming season.

What was the term he was offered? I'd think he would leave $500K on the table to play in a city he'd like to stay in, so unless it was bad term I'd think he just wants out of TOR.
- Rinosaur

Not sure on the term, have to figure 5 by 5.

I think he goes to Edmonton, if he leaves Toronto.

I think if the above doesn't happen, whomever gives him between 6 and 7 gets him.

It's Pittsburgh and Toronto offer the same deal, I dont think he leaves Toronto. Playing with 34 and 16 is still an attractive gig.

Only thing is, in TO if he gets paid 5 mill, he only takes home 2.5. I dont think the taxes are as severe in Pittsburgh not to mention the US dollar is worth more....

Given Suter’s status as an aging 36 year old in decline without a cup who’s still a top 4 d man and checks off a lot of the intangibles old hockey head GMs love, I really don’t see a path to him becoming a Penguin. Either he takes a sweetheart deal to Cup chase with a true contender or he’s going to be crazily overpaid by someone who doesn’t realize he’s 36.

Pens should be looking at a 3 x 3 deal for him at max, which puts us in neither category.

I'm guessing 2-3yrs at a $4-5M cap hit. Unless he decides he doesn't care about the money with the buyout and signs super cheap with a team like Tampa or Pittsburgh who he can help put over the top.

Pittsburgh isn’t close to being a top tier contender. We are firmly a dark horse at this point, and depending on how guys continue to age, dark horse might be generous.

I get the feeling he ends up in Washington. Most of the high end contenders are set on the blue line and I feel like there’s always a perception around the league that Washington are top tier contenders even when they’re not.

Just passing something along.

Ron Cook (longtime local reporter/ radio host) said a source of his close to the team says they are convinced Jarry's playoff performance was because he was injured late in the season and couldn't practice for over a week and lost his edge. He said both the players and management feel this way so they may really aren't looking to make a change in goal.

For his part, Cook didn't think that was a good idea, just what he'd heard.
