Not that I think they should buy him out, but it looks like a massacre in Minnesota.

I would take Zucc back on the cheap immediately.

I tried doing the football thing but it would be too bad for my already not so great health. I also can't really get into the game. I gave up baseball because it was too slow/boring (I was also a Mets fan). Football isn't far behind with all the stops.

I meant handegg. I actually would enjoy Football if they weren't such (frank)ing pansies. It can be fun to watch.

I would drive out to Minny to pick him up. Might be a weird ride back, not unlike TPC chauffeuring Kreider.

I don't know what Suter and Parise will do about their bunk beds though

As long as you don't try to play tummy sticks it should be OK.

Both Parise and Suter have four years remaining on each of their contracts, which carry identical $7,538,461 cap hits. As a result of the buyout, the pair will now count against the Wild's cap for the next eight seasons, with respective cap hits of $2,371,794 in the first year, $6,371,794 in the second year, $7,371,794 in years three and four, and then $833,333 for the remaining four years.

Minnesota has $12.7 mil dead cap space in 2022-23 and $14.74 mil dead cap space in both 2023-24 and 2024-25

Why not do one this year and wait on the other?

I think from what I saw, they needed to do both this year or not at all.

To think burying them could have saved more cap in year 3 and 4. Wonder what the cap recapture looked like.

Will look, but saw this earlier:

So what benefits were there to these two buyouts?

1. Neither needs to be protected for expansion (if they weren't willing to waive their NMC)
2. Frees 2 roster spots
3. Clears $10.3M in cap this season

Kaprizov needs a big deal now and Greenway needs a contract next year, and Fiala, too, so they're really not in bad shape with that dead cap. Yet.

Only have 26m in space for 22-23 with a 9 man roster

They're going to be looking for picks in exchange for a couple of their middling centers. Their best D are signed. Not great, but not unworkable.

I don't know that they have the kind of "hard-to-play-against" forwards the Rangers need to add, but they could use a couple of the Rangers' young, cheap D-men. The cap is going to go up, eventually, and they'll get some relief before the worst of the buy-outs hit home.
