This is 99% an unlikely trade scenario but it’s silly season and would require waived NTC. So assuming we lose JVR or Ghost in ED.

PHL: Brent Burns (1-2M retained)

SJ: Voracek.

Thoughts?

No interest in Burns at this point personally.

I could see Voracek as a fit with the Oilers. Not just because they are the Oilers but I could see where he is on the wing of one of the top 2 lines. This would allow for McDavid and Draistal to be separated and give more depth to those lines.

Now the catch is the return.

Like I believe Bill mentioned, your probably not getting exact value back for Voracek because of the cap hit but you can make a trade to reshape the roster.

Exactly how do they fit 8.25M under their CAP..Oilers would have no interest in JV even at 5M. Cant understand fans who want to unload Jake and his 8.25M from the Flyers but think other teams will want him. This guy is a 15 goal scorer anymore. Gets lots of secondary PP assists and plays no defense. Dont you think other GMs see what we see???

There is no doubt that moves will be made. However with the buyouts Minny just did, good chance Dumba will be protected and kept. Word is that Larsson is going to take less to stay in Edmonton. Something will be done.

I just read something that says he is most likely gone now. The more I think about it the more I am not against making a play for Larsson. Again depending on cost he might be a solid signing that doesn't bring the fanfare but fits the need for the team.

Hey, MJL makes a lot of sense actually, but I do agree with you in this instance, there is a HUGE culture issue on this team which is why I have been advocating a major shakeup with the veteran core of this team. From all reports, Fletcher agrees since its becoming clear he will be fine with losing JVR in the ED and is looking to trade Ghost and Jake. If it were me, I would also take the 'C' away from G to to really shake everyone up, but at least on this forum, this is not a popular move.
- jd250

G has been an excellent Flyer. Has put up points. Has taken grenades for teammates. Is going to be in the Flyers HOF. Why disrespect him like that to shake up the team.

When he retires he will have been under appreciated.

David Clarkson, Milan Lucic, Matt Belesky and the list goes on. GM’s do stupid things.

I don't know. You maybe right and I maybe crazy as the song states, but I think with a few good moves from Fletcher, this team is not that far off from contention. Fletcher has to gird his loins no doubt about it, but if he does there are players available that can help this team, and after the ED Fletcher should have enough cap space to do something.
- jd250

This really makes the point for me. I think it's really a stretch to think that there are a few moves that Fletcher can make that jolts this team into being a contender. That's just not reality. Reality is the only thing that will push this team into being a contender is young players developing and flourishing. You don't trade and sign your way into being a contender in this league anymore. You supplement with those moves. Trades and UFA's signings can definitely improve your team but will not make the jump into the top echelon of the league. If you think that is going to happen. Prepare to be disappointed.

Just show patience with the "young" players. Just a couple years away.

He's looking to move those players due to age and cap issues. Not because he thinks there is a culture issue. It's not about culture. It's about not being good enough along with the strange occurrence of last season. No chance they will remove the C from Giroux. This culture idea is being ridiculously overblown.

no chance, Suter is old, and is signed for 4 more years at over $7M, Fletcher would have to be as stupid as Edmonton's GM ... wait!
- jd250

Suter is being bought out and will be a UFA.

Because its team first. Would rather contend sooner or be stuck in mediocrity for years because you want to be polite?

From Kevin Allen

Defenseman Adam Larsson (Edmonton): The expectation is that he will accept a lower average salary to obtain a long-term deal, like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins did.

How exactly does stripping Giroux make the team better? If anything it probably sends the wrong message.

I just saw that, this might be a good thing for the Flyers, because another name on the defenseman pool lightens the competition a bit. I hope the Flyers pass on Suter and let some other team grab the aging veteran.

Totally agree. He is one year away from ufa. If there was ever a time they would name a new captain it would be after this season.

With Edmonton only? What if the Flyers match or exceed the offer he gets from Edmonton? I would hope Fletcher is in contact with his agent letting him know his client will have other suiters that are in better markets and will probably win before Edmonton does.

Just my opinion, but I think this team needs a more in your face type of leadership than what G is capable of providing. The message it sends is things are different now, and you better shape up or you will be shipped out. Make no mistake, when Fletcher talked about mix, he was referring to a few things including the culture (leadership) on this team. Its no coincidence that when Nisky retired people were talking more about his locker room presence being missed more than even his play on the ice!

I agree with you that the Flyers have some very good young players, its their veteran core that is broken. With the ED and some good trades and FA signings, I think with this young group the Flyers can get back on their feet sooner rather than later. However if they come back with the same veteran core, playing the most important minutes of each game, they have no shot!
