Last season was so bad it was almost comical watching game by game, but I don't agree that even if the Flyers did nothing they would be much better than last year. I guess better maybe in terms of not having a month like March, because they would have practice time and hopefully is immune to Covid now. However this team as currently constituted is not a playoff team in this division; they are not better right now than Washington, Pittsburgh, Boston, Islanders, and even the Rangers. This team needs significant upgrades in speed, skill, leadership and toughness to become a playoff team and have a chance to get out of their division. Fletcher has got to make big changes this off season if we are to have any hope of a much improved team next season.

If they go back to the original divisions and playoff formats, I have no doubt that this team right now could be a playoff team. I think they have needs to fill and need young players to grow but I would disagree that this team needs wholesale changes to be a playoff team.

A change in culture happens by becoming a better team. If we can move Voracek and become a better team without hurting the cap in the future, I'm all in. I'm not all in for some perceived blanket culture change.
- MJL

it can also happen by changing the players. Like i said, after watching the unprofessionalism last year, culture needs to be changed. Too many games last year were completely unacceptable.

If G was making what Couts is making now, no one would be complaining. Look G and Couts will swap contracts next year and rightly so, and they will be fine. If G wants more, he can walk! The Flyers will move on just fine without him.

My gut tells me Giroux has a strong year and puts up in the 70 point range. That makes re-signing Giroux very problematic.

i know people want this to happen, but it's not necessarily true. if giroux has a good year he's not going to take a 4M paycut.
- Ftown19125

This is possibly true, and if so I would let him walk, because I can use that money much better on a younger player.

I agree there were many games where the compete level was unacceptable. I just don't see it as a culture issue.

It really does. I love Giroux but you can't count on this production for the next few years. If he wants in the $5-6M range, especially with a flat cap, I would opt to use that money to get younger, faster or tougher.

So for all the people who think that Jake can be traded, whether it is his full contract or Flyers retain some cap hit. I would really like to hear what teams you actually think would have interest in Jake. Then who do you see as a possible return. Many have said to trade him though don't offer anything other than that.

So the exercise for today is make your Jake proposals.

Chipped beef on toast is the best.

- hello it's me 2050

Jake is untrade able without salary retention and even at that holds little value. question Flyers fans should ask themselves if Jake was a UFA today what would you offer him, if anything to sign here?? 4-4.5 for 3 yrs. well whatever your answer is that is his value

In my eyes, if it was one game or two, you could dismiss it, but it happened over and over. And the times it happened. Getting blown out, and having no response the next game....just happened way too many times. Should be an interesting month of offseason coming up. Lets see what chucks plan is.

Really has that feeling like the Flyers are going to go nuts this offseason. For better or worse, a lot of people are probably going to get the off-season action they’ve been craving.

Oh that's right, they could go back to the metro divisions couldn't they. But wait, the metro division still had the Caps, Penguins, Rangers, Islanders and Hurricanes. I don't think the Flyers right now are better than any of these teams so I see them still out of the playoffs unless they make big changes.

Improve the team next year? Hopefully geared toward the future. This team isn’t gonna be near contention for awhile and people need to come to realistic grips with that. With the salaries we have and holes needed to fill and assets that would be needed to give up to get those would still be non contender if tried. While philly was frustrating at times until hexy the joy of watching them KNOWING they weren’t contenders was watching them obtain picks prospects and them develop. Now we’re in a lose lose situation due to 2 years of status quo (with yes some legit excuses but excuses none the less) I don’t think hexy would’ve strayed from the process with those excuses. The mandate from the bean counter was to try to win now. As it is today. Fletch hopefully doesn’t make the mortgage the future moves to try to win now but he probably will. Because the pressure from above. I can see them trading young assets for vet and signing coots long term big $ to paint picture of competing. And it will fail and the fans anger and debate will continue. With half seeing the dumbness and the other half blindly supporting team.

It felt that as the season spiraled, instead of battling through it, some guys checked out.

Totally unacceptable and unwatchable.

I think they were a dysfunctional mess team wise. They didn't know how to get out of it. Frustration ran very deep.

I get your point. It’s coming though. Once corporate gets involved bad decisions usually follow as executives try to save their jobs.

Fletcher has a mandate. Scott wants the team to be a cap team. They're headed for hockey purgatory. I really hope I wind up wrong about it.

Suter can still play. Off to tampa for league minimum.
- hello it's me 2050

And they will then expose Mcdonagh and solve a part of their CAP problem. Kraken will take McD and he will be their captain. Somehow Tampa comes out smelling like a rose

You make it sound like its easy to get an average #1C. Draft, no guarantees anyone will be as good as Coots. FAs? What FA are available this year or next to replace Coots? Most teams lock up the #1C before they become a FA.
- bradster

That’s the point. Teams looking to trade for a 1c and giving up assets are gonna sign him to the long term big money contract to be their 1c.

Just like Seth Jones.

Giving up 6+ goals 11 times in 56 games is way beyond unacceptable. It's non competitive, gutless, and a disgrace. It's shows that players couldn't give a damn.

If you swap the contracts the team is same and will be in same boat 4-5 years from now but instead of g/coots it’ll be coots/and whoever

I think the Flyers have the assets to get them into the conversation for the playoffs for sure. But I have to agree, they just aren’t as good as some of those teams. The good news is our current GM seems to get it. Now, does he have the plan or vision to get us to the next level and fill or address this teams needs.
