Is this you, Chuck?! - AngryJoe
For the record, I think the ED had very little to do with the Flyers signing the contract with Laughton when they did. They came to an agreement with a player they saw as part of the future of this team.
Simple as that really. |

So for hello…
We don’t know which teams are necessarily possible trade destinations for Jake yet but we can reasonably summize a few things.
1) if no $ retained the trade would likely be a “hockey trade” players for player / contracts for contracts. Or we would be adding in sweeteners to entice the trading team to take the contract. Me personally don’t want either of these scenarios. Unless by some chance the player were getting is younger and good then maybe.
2) as $ is retained 25% or 50% there will be more teams with interest and would likely be teams more interested in winning now and need a steady point producing vet winger they’d view as improving their team. I would think the return would be picks or at best average prospects do to salary cap # paid on Jake even with retention.
3) if Jake not selected by Seattle then most likely at draft a team might make the move for Jake to beat the free agency period and would have better look at what teams rosters will be after Ed. Or as free agency starts and some targeted players sign their deals team will be left out and that’s probably the time Jake gets moved.
4) again there will be many teams looking. It’s a fresh start time of year. Teams will have cap room and can do things. There’s probably a handful that don’t need a Jake type and a handful that’s so much in early rebuild that wouldn’t be interested which would leave I’d say probably the middle most part of league. Maybe 20ish teams that would consider it at least. So with that many surely a deal could be made. Whether fletch plans would take any options or what options we don’t know. |

Yea that’s kind of my point, was it looked at too simply? |

so you dont have anything to offer in terms of what teams you think would be interested or what teams you think may be a fit.

Does anyone remember or know, do all teams post the protection list after submitting on the 17th? - Peter Richards
Lists are kept secret until 96 hours the expansion draft or when a team leaks its list, whichever comes first. |

I think depending there are a good number of teams. I would call Vegas, at this point the team they have topped out, they need a small shake up if they want the same group to have a shot this season. AV's will be better etc etc. Vegas has goal scorers, I think jakes Size, speed and play making would go well there. I think the Flyers could make a good hockey trade. You could look at Max P or Karlsson or JM retain or add sweeteners as needed. Would give Vegas a new weapon and add something different to the Flyers.
That said, I am happy to keep Jake, lose JVR and Ghost and retool with the right players via FA and smaller trades.
unless you can get that game changer you need to be careful |

Not yet. To many unknowns I mean probably can eliminate some teams tho for instance
Tb bos Vegas col car ( teams at high end of cap and good. Already have plenty of what Jake brings)
Buf det Ottawa ( teams at lower end clearly still rebuilding)
Most of rest of league besides a handful of other teams would probably look into it if fletch called.
Obviously after Ed and after free agency starts the target teams becomes more obvious due to cap and roster situations. It’s pretty much that way when discussing any player. (Jones Hamilton Johnny hockey eichel Reinhardt any player that’s free agent or talk of being traded |

If trading with Vegas I want no part of Jake for jm or mp it’s just a lateral move. Status quo swapping those players. Would be interested in tuch tho. Young high upside. I’d be fine with retaining salary in that type move or adding a little sweetener. Not giving up the farm tho |

I agree it has to be a good hockey trade, I would like Tuch but doubt that would be available. the contracts for MP and JM are not bad and they do add O and add more a of a shooter mentality. Both could be flipped at the deadline. It would have a lot to do with retention

I don't see Vegas interested. They need a center.

not many players out there that are THE answer, like the Flyers most teams will need to make multiple moves.

The teams making a good hockey trade for Jake are very limited imo. Arizona is all I got off the top of my head.

I agree with SSB. I know last year was very bad and underwhelming (especially compared to 19-20), but FFS our fans are so low on Chuck and so negative about getting new players. It’s getting a tad ridiculous. Yes, I was disappointed in Fletcher’s offseason post-Nisky retirement, but the true reality is Fletcher absolutely tried to improve this team and simply couldn’t with the unexpected pandemic and flat cap. I’d say Fletcher’s 1st off-season was great. Really made the right moves to complement the current roster as well as our core. He brought in Nisky, Braun, and Pitlick (perhaps I’m blanking on 1 or 2), brought in AV who should have won Jack Adam’s last year, and also had 2 solid drafts. I think fans need to take a step back, breath and have some faith. I’d say Chuck is 1 for 2 offseason wise but there’s an * for last offseason with the flat cap In mind.

Just have to throw this out there with the hard cap. I don’t think at all it makes the league any more competitively better what it does is makes the league more middling together and takes away from gms to show of they’re any good. Making moves trades how to build a team etc. obviously in a cap world you have to build through the draft. Everyone agrees on that. Most agree that eventually you’ll have to draft at least for a portion toward the higher end of draft some say top end. Either way that means for a good period of time these teams will be either bad. Slightly better than bad or hover around average for extended period of time. How’s does the cap help make them competitive? Competitive to what? Can’t just blame team for extended period of mediocrity as there’s so many teams in that boat.
Take Edmonton for example. They take mcdavid and in a few years he’s getting HIGE contract. That’s gonna severely affected how team can move forward. Why not give each team 1 contract for drafted player to keep that doesn’t count toward cap if team chooses to use it. |

I still believe we have an above average team but also have assets to shed. Start from the net and work your way out. - SuperSchennBros
That defense is pretty horrible. There is depth with the forwards but the core guys are aging. And to be honest the goaltender is a question mark at this point. I’d say we are right around average. |

I think teams would still love to have Jake…. just not his contract.
I saw someone mention paying $4 million a year for the next 3 years to be rid of him just to shake things up. No way in hell would I do that. |

Fletcher with little cap room, a bunch of bad contracts, underachieving young players whose value has plummeted. What could go wrong?! |

I don’t think it’s about just getting new players or being mad at fletch. It’s more fans are realizing the core needs to be turned over. It should’ve been a few years ago. It’s part of the process. We were never winning with g jake. I even say coots. Only because of pending contract and age at time. No one wants a tank blow it up and can’t anyways. Way too many good young players it’s just if moves aren’t made for key pieces were stuck in neutral. Whether it’s trade draft free agency gotta get those pieces
