Connor McDavid is gonna ask Duncan Keith what the secret is to winning the Stanley Cup, and Keith is gonna tell him it's efficient cap management, and McDavid is gonna cry.

I like what they're doing, completely revamping their system and going with young players. For a lot of years they tried to be competitive and were never able to accomplish anything, why not try to do something different. - LeftCoaster
adding monstrous amounts of dead cap in a flat cap world?
how do they work out their long term cap projections based on the uncertainty of the economic landscape and now with an additional 20-ish% in dead cap.
even worse is that the cap crunch comes in 2-3 years and not right away, meaning that they'll have to shed cap rather than just going with a lower cap right now to get it over with. |

Would you buy low on Eberle from the Isles as a top 6 forward? NYI need to move $. - 1970vintage
He is a good player. This next two weeks are going to be big for Canucks and every team. I think a lot of movement is going to happen. This could be one of the most exciting offseason in decades with the flat cap and E Draft.
See who gets bought out or trade . Would you take Tyler Johnson and Foote as the add?

I think they would be more open to move Leddy. - Reubenkincade
Leddy isn’t a top 6 forward? I think they need to sign Beauvillier (RFA?), Pelech (RFA) and Sriorokin (sp?). |

They're obviously looking at the future, not the present, as in five plus years out. We'll see how it works out for them. |

Good to see another team finally feel the heat for those 50 year long contracts
Teams are making up franking illnesses, and Vancouver is the only one that gets punished. |

Looks that way. Once you commit to it you've gotta follow through with it and hope it works out the best for you. They've got Brackett, he'll draft them some gems |

That's on Luongo, he wanted to retire instead of go on LTIR, despite having hip issues. He screwed both the Canucks and to a lesser extent Florida. |

to both you and vints, i was going to add:
unless you are ready to take on a decade long rebuild, it doesn't make sense.
if that's what they're doing, good for them for setting a course of action and taking it. i still think that even if they are going for rebuild, why not just keep the players and let the contracts run out?
if it's a decade long rebuild, how do the contracts hurt the cap if you're not going to spend to it anyway? the players are generally regarded as good in the room (though i'm open to hearing otherwise) so why not keep the minnesota natives (i think both are) around to build team culture?

Years three and four they get hammered but I guess that's a risk they're willing to take on. Years five and on aren't that bad. |

Brackett is the most overrated scout ever.
Although, he is good at drafting American kids who are clueless when it comes to playing defense ie; Jordan Schroeder, Adam Gaudette, Brock Boeser(who is only just learning). Then you have the Joe Labate types. Ya, Great scout.

you're right.
but that's also another drawback in my opinion.
how do you set a cap, meaning sign players long term, when you've got a very substantial decrease in cap for a 2/3 seasons.
that's what i meant that it would have been easier to have the cap hit right now and be able to get it over with.
it's going to be harder to set a roster/cap projection when the cap goes (roughly) 80, 80, 67, 67, 80ish. that dip in the middle will make them have to get very creative. imo, they just made it more difficult on themselves without getting much beneifit. they get more cap space right now, but for what? if they are going for a full rebuild, what is to be gained from extra cap space for 2 seasons? |

I would say shocking but it really isn't . Gillis Kesler and Luongo should be put in a capsule and shot into space.

for canadians, it's always been about the availability of the vaccine.
for americans, it's always been about the availability of quality education.
it's not surprising that what canada needed arrived first. |

He was simply an amateur scout back then, he was in charge of nothing lol. That's like blaming Phil Golding for drafting Olli Juolevi or Kole Lind |

You Brackett cum-guzzlers like to give him credit as some super-duper scout, just who do you give him credit for scouting? |
