1940-41: The Rangers not only won the Cup in the spring of 1940, they paid off the mortgage on Madison Square Garden not long afterward. To celebrate, the Rangers lit the mortgage on fire while it was in the Cup, causing the Cup to catch on fire. Supposedly, the "hockey gods" were upset and put a curse on the Rangers; regardless of the reason, the team had to wait until 1994 to win another Cup.

I see the NHL omitted the part of the story where they started pissing on it to put the fire out

that seems like a backward way of doing things, but I guess it makes it more special for the players.

As you can see from the link Golfing shared, it's probably been damaged more years than not, so I guess what's the difference at this point?

I remember reading a book about the cup's history as a kid. My favourite is still forgetting it on the side of the road.

Umm, material things doesn’t help your intelligence, people just wonder how such a dumbass could accumulate so much stuff.

Ducharme said assistants Burrows and Richardson "should be back. It's just a matter of time."

----------------------------------------------------

I heard Burrows was up for head coach of Laval Rockets. Which way will Burr go?

If I were him I'd rather be a head coach in the AHL if his ultimate goal is to become a head coach. If you win a Calder Cup or even make the finals, that usually earns you a few head coach interviews.

I liked what he brought, a stand up guy on the ice. Probably shouldn't be top pair, but he's a good guy to have in the lineup.

Id love Suter on a low rate/term. He basically can choose though, teams will line up.

Parise is a W

Both Americans, those guys typically sign down south unless there’s no interest or unless overpaid
