Everyone seems to be hinting strongly at Canucks making a trade in the next week before the expansion lists have to be submitted.
Aggressive Jimbo about to get to work.

If Benning trades for OEL (or another terrible big money defenseman), he deserves to lose Pettersson to an offer sheet. |

I don't think you'll see Benning trade for OEL, he's got some cleanup work to do before he can pull something like that off and he knows it. |

I wouldn't take OEL at half his salary for the next 6 years.
That's just a bonkers contract. For a player that's been in decline for 2 years already.
Rather get rid of Schmidt's contract and get Hamonic and someone else back on around 3M a season for a few years. |

Do you think it has anything to do with the team he's on, or just a general decline on his part? |

Quick check
Top of the 4 Penguins. 4 top 3 picks.
Blackhawks 3 top 3 picks
Tampa Bay 3 top 3 picks.

Losing and being lucky, Patick Kane pick, has a lot to do with success. |

Arizona has played a pretty tight defensive system under Tocchet. Other pairs are mostly around even but the pairing of OEL and Lybushkin was pretty much the worst they had by far in almost all category. |

That makes it even worse.
Pretty much Keith Yandle in Florida who at 2M less per season has been on a decline the last couple of years. Was going to be a healthy scratch this year but ended up playing 17 minutes per game instead. Still decent production mostly PP for Yandle.
I just don't know how JB is taking that unless it's at half and Arizona's first round pick is coming back next season top 3 only way Arizona would be allowed to keep it.
Contract might be the worst in the league now. |

This UFA right handed draft class brings a lot of what Van could use. Hits and blocked shots. |

It looks like there have been some changes within the #Canucks amateur scouting department:
-Todd Harvey officially has his title changed to Director of Amateur Scouting.
-Wyatt Smith has been promoted to head scout.
-Phil Golding has been promoted to head scout. |

Is that part of the new 2 year plan is it part of the day by day management? |

Player Base: Age and Scoring
46% of the AHL’s 2019-20 player base did not appear in 2020-21
40% of the AHL’s top-50 producers in 2019-20 did not return to the AHL in the 2020-21 season
40% of the AHL’s top-300 producers in 2019-20 did not return to the AHL in 2020-21

According to Cody Severton
Since 10-11 the Canucks farm system has developed (players that played 50 plus AHL games) with no previous AHL or NHL experience
5 players
Chris Tanev
Thatcher Demko
Jalen Chatfield
Zack MacEwen
Olli Juolevi
Tampa Bay and Toronto have consistently found ways to polish late-round picks into credible NHL pieces. The Canucks replicating the Tampa/Toronto depth-replenishment model through their scouting, drafting, and AHL development process would additionally do wonders to rebuilding consumer confidence in the organization. |

At what point does trading away all your current players for draft picks (so you don’t lose them to Seattle) start to hurt your NHL roster? I mean, you are going to lose a player, and you have to expose F,F,D,G. |

From "My Swedish draft board
https://mikaelholm.substa...k.com/p/swedishdraftboard
Theo Angesved (Frölunda J20 – J20 Nationell)
Angesved is a player on the smaller side (if 5’11”, 172lbs) with very good puck-moving skills. He is comfortable on the puck and can get the puck up the ice by either finding his teammates with passes or he can carry it on his own. I think he is a little bit slow-moving but with his move to Frölunda this off-season he will get the opportunity to improve that.
He has some issues with his decision making without the puck. He can get a bit stuck in the middle between closing up on his opponent or backing off and that will make it easier for his opponent to get past him. He can also be a bit too eager to pinch and get fooled.
Despite his size, Angesved isn’t afraid of going into the tougher areas of the ice and he is surprisingly good at winning the puck along the boards. There is definitely a solid defenseman in the works with Angesved and that is why he is listed for me.
Range: 4th round.
Arvid Sundin (Brynäs J20 – J20 Nationell)
Sundin has a lot of tools to like. He is a quick and evasive skater who can take over a game with his skating. He has nice solid hands that makes it hard to take the puck away from him. He is very good defensively as well, he scores a lot on the penalty kill thanks to being smart defensively and his skating. He has a good shot that he can pick corners with although it is not anything standout or special. I think Sundin could become a third line winger who does a lot of work on the penalty kill and a player that every team would love to have thanks to his work ethic, speed and hands.
Range: 4-5th round.
Range 6th or 7th I'd go far. |
