I think they both do. Bad as a year as this was for Zucker, he still played at a 39 point pace.
- Tojo.

I wouldn’t expect too much from 30-32 aged seasons for Zucker.

Idk if he’s going to be that cheap.
- Feds91Stammer

I think he will be a good million cheaper than the likes of Saad. I think this off-season will be all about term, so it will probably take like a five year contract to get him in at the $4M mark, but at this point I could care less about term.

Ovechkin is there for the taking! Trade a few players for draft picks and get AO. Penguins become the official #teamPutin .

Obvious joke but the next concept is a more legitimate proposal that is likely a joke: Mighty Ducks - Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. They are old AF but on a deep team they could be of help if they're willing to sign for less $$$ and term to play with Sid and Geno.

But that's always the rub, eh? Scenarios that imply someone's willing to come to the Penguins for a "deal".

Saad is predicted to get $5M per on a 4 year deal while Coleman is predicted to get $4.7M per on a 4 year deal, per Evolving Hockey.

It would cost $5M per on a 5 year deal for Coleman per Evolving Hockey.

I think teams will offer term to bring numbers down.

I don't know if evolving hockey takes the flat cap into consideration. It also makes no sense for a player's hit to go up on more term. 4.7 on 4 and 5 on 5? Makes no sense.

I think Coleman comes in between $3.75M to $4.25M on a five year deal.

For whatever reason, Zucker hasn't fit in, so Saad could be an upgrade. I don't know how to predict who will or fit, but I wouldn't mind trying it out.

I don't see much marketing value to Saad though. You feel loss more than gain, so we notice locals that got away (Dan Marino!) a lot more than appreciate the local kid on the team (Neil Walker). It's not like the Pens need to sell more tickets or goose up the TV ratings. They really need someone who can do a net drive in traffic.

Logically thinking, why would Evolving Hockey compile data based on something other than a flat cap?

Sure it does, precisely due to the current flat cap and the fact that the longer term the deal, the more years they're getting paid on a AAV that is due to a flat cap that would've ended before their deal was up.

If the bar is 40 points I feel safe, but I like him more than most and just think he had a bad year and no chemistry with Malkin.

Well, I'm going to say they're wrong. It makes no sense for the cap hit to go up when term goes up.

$4.7M for four years.
$5M for five years.

The five year hit should be lower than the four year. Evolving hockey is missing something in their algorithm.

The RNH deal is proof that the flat cap has nothing to do with it. More term, less money.

Problem is, is that Zuck won't take Guentz spot so there's that. Guentz/Sid/? and ?/Geno/Kap should be the starting point for our top 6. We currently have McCann, Rust and Zuck to fill in the top 9. McCann either goes with Geno or Carter and Rust goes with Sid or Carter. And I'd find Zuck a new home.

All the cap prediction poop is a crapshoot because none of us know what the player is looking for or how dumb a GM is willing to be.

This is true. Plus, Coleman now has two cups, so his motivations will be very different. All things Evolving Hockey cannot factor into its predictions.

Having 12m tied up in Petts, Matheson, and Tanev is the biggest issue.

And the narrative that the 3rd line won both cups when Kuch should have 2 conn smythes right now.

Coleman also now has two cups. His motivations may be very different. Maybe he's willing to go to a pooptier team that will overpay. Like the Oilers for instance.

He should most certainly look to get paid considering there’s no way Tampa can fit him in.

I think a team like AZ or BUF will throw a ton of money at him, and he should take it. Unless a true contending team will offer him good money, I think he winds up on a crap team. MAYBE Seattle gives him big money. That would be the one exception.

Why would he take that? It’s obvious. What a dumb post.
