Hard to imagine that salary wouldn’t be going back the other way, from what I’ve read, Yotes are okay with taking on salary back but hesitant to retain on OEL

Out of pure curiosity, what would a buyout look like if they traded for him at 50% and then bought out the last two years? Would the Canucks be penalized as much since they didn't have him for the whole thing/save as much against the cap?

If his knee is that bad then you pull a Seabrook or Steen in the final years

If we are already talking about injury hesitations or buyout calculators, it's probably best to stay clear lol

Ya, but they don't have a trade/retain + buyout calculator, that I'm aware of.

Trade doesn’t effect buyout, I think you’re getting confused with LTIR retirements, that’s only a concern if OEL retires before his contract ends. Retention will effect buyouts though.

You can be aggressive without being stupid.

We will see what Benning does and then can label it after.

I am not worried about the final two years. Exactly for the reason if he can no longer play you get him on LTIR (legitimately)

Looking at the next four years . He outscored Schmidt by 9 points last year in 8 less games I think. I think he is better defensively than Schmidt.

His salary is 10.5 this year but if you moved Schmidt and Loui then 9 of that goes back. In actual cap space this year the Canucks would gain approx 3 mil.

I didn't see him play last year so I can not really comment on his game if it has gone down , but I am sure the Canucks have seen him if they are in fact really interested.

I am not saying he is injured , I am saying if he is then there is LTIR created just for those reasons.

Exactly. The fact that they were in serious discussions to acquire him last year means that they likely kept tabs on him this past season. I’m sure they’re well aware of what he’s capable of

With us finally getting to the last year of LEs disastrous 6 year contract, I can't help but feel it would be repeating the same mistake if we were to acquire OEL. He has been really bad the last couple years, and 8.25 aav is gross.

He’s a good player
- Nucker101

According to Tanner OEL was 'technically' a better overall player than Tavares.

It will either happen or wont. I don't care one way or the other , I will leave it up to the team to decide. We will know soon though .

Tanner was a typical Leafs homer too so that’s quite the statement coming from him

They need to be put on waivers first for the purpose of buyout . Some very desperate team might try for a Hail Mary
