With us finally getting to the last year of LEs disastrous 6 year contract, I can't help but feel it would be repeating the same mistake if we were to acquire OEL. He has been really bad the last couple years, and 8.25 aav is gross.

He's a really good defenceman, but, he's 30 years old next week and he's not going to be an 8.25 million dollar good dman for the next six years IMO.

Alex Edler used to be a really good defenceman too but his play has significantly declined over the past four years. He's still playing way too much and thats certainly contributed to that decline.

OEL is not good anymore.

8.25 is absurd. That's why it'd be the ol' bend over. OEL for 4.125 is decent. He can still play, better than Edler who they're thinking of bringing back, and his contract is up at the same age Edler is now.

At the end of the day, I'd rather they not trade for him. I'm a big advocate against. Just saying if they do, I wouldn't hate it if it was the above trade.

I'd be okay with trading for OEL if it was an "Arizona got bent over" trade.

OEL (50% retained) for LE, OJ, and a 4th

Arizona save money in the long term and get some assets back. Canucks replace Edler and their left side is set with OEL, Hughes, Rathbone

Would also inquire about adding Garland or Dvorak to the trade, though either might be a bit too much $$ for this years cap

- NewYorkNuck

I wouldn't take him even at half.

Thank you. It baffles me that anyone still thinks he is good.

You can be aggressive without being stupid.

We will see what Benning does and then can label it after.

Yes & it will be labeled no doubt lol

Oh yeah, all the hockey experts here will vehemently tell you what is what in their pea brained minds.

Although it is funny reading, kind of pathetic at the same time.

People ripped on Schmidt for his play last year, and yet don't understand that he was miles and miles away better than OEL was lol.

Good skater, decent size, throws some hits, a team captain, good shot from the point, good passer, has plenty of experience playing big minutes against top lines, plays PP/PK/top pair minutes. He’s a workhorse.

If thwy eat 3 mil of his contract, i wouldnt hate the deal as long as its not overspending. Way too much money imo to take on as is

Pretty sad how many fans actually think they could cut it as a NHL GM. Give some opinions sure but those calling Benning stupid are out to lunch.

Hard to imagine that salary wouldn’t be going back the other way, from what I’ve read, Yotes are okay with taking on salary back but hesitant to retain on OEL

Hes 2nd pair as far as minutes per night
2nd PP
Top PK
His defense at even strength has been horrendous for the last few years.
And everything else you listed can be done by someone who didn't suffer a horrible knee injury and, isnt on the wrong side of 30, and doesn't come with a 6 x 8.25 contract.

Seattle should make the deal, ARI 2022 1st for SEA 2021 4th and Seattle will take OEL in the E draft.

This last year, sure, but every other year he was a 23-24 minute per night workhorse. Apparently didn’t get along great with Rick Tocchet according to Yotes fans. I think Benning will make the deal if the price is right and OEL would fit in well in Vancouver with more skilled top 6 forwards to feed the puck to. If he’s as bad as defensively as you say then I doubt defensive minded coaches like Tippett would’ve played him those heavy minutes

Out of pure curiosity, what would a buyout look like if they traded for him at 50% and then bought out the last two years? Would the Canucks be penalized as much since they didn't have him for the whole thing/save as much against the cap?
