If that’s for EP then I’d do 8/8.5m - Nighthawk
Term is the new form of cash with these new contracts.
I would not be shocked to see EP get 8 years I mean after all...he will finish his career here.

See the last like 5 winners man
Pitt
Sid Geno Letang Fleury Murray
Wash
Ovie Backstrom Holtby Kuz
Tampa
All of them almost
Chicago
Kane Toews Seabroom Keith Crawford niemi I believe
LA
Kopitar Brown Dought Martinez quick
Yuo drafting gets you nowhere...... that's just off the top of my head but the core is there on every team pretty easy to see
Oh sorry also
Bergeron Krecji Marchand Pastranak Krug Carlo McAvoy etc. They did trade for risk when he was a kid but you get the point jackass |

Rantanen, Mikko COL Sep 28, 2019 22 6 2019-25 Standard RFA UFA RW Left 239 209 11.35% $9,250,000
Marner, Mitchell TOR Sep 13, 2019 22 6 2019-25 Standard RFA UFA RW Right 241 224 13.38% $10,903,000
Canucks got it backwards, I would be giving Petey the long term deal. Not as high as Marner much closer to Rantanen.
Hughes is a less complete player than Petey is. Short term with Hughes to see if he can figure out his defence.
There's no (frank)en way Petey is going to sign anywhere near 8.5M for 8 years. Maybe 5 years? |

Tampa Chicaga LA Pitts Washington Boston.
For the love of God don't get into semantics about the complimentary players that help win cause the meat of all those teams were drafted and developed. - Jkuzzi
If you check the teams have about 5 high drafts and about 2-3 lower value draft picks , a couple of trades and a small amount of UFAs
Canucks this year used Petey Hughes Hoglander Boeser Horvat as high draft picks . They will be adding Podz next year.
They also used Rathbone Juolevi Jake Edler as four lesser . Then you can add the even lesser Gadj Lind and Lockwood.

Yeah I know. But you were saying winners don't have draft picks on their team. I beg to differ based in results.
I don't think our players are good enough based on finishing last in the worst div in the league but I am open to optimism coming in. They way you won is manage the cap and draft well. Colorado will win a cup of two the next five years maybe Vegas. |

Colorado looked pretty ineffective IMO against VGK. VGK got beat by the Habs . I am not sure you can say they were the weakest division if they didn't play against each other.
Vancouver had a really bad year . Lets see if they bounce back.
For the record every team uses at least 5 of their best draft picks not just the cup winners.
I didn't even include Zack Gaudette Chatfield or Rafferty on that list. Our draft picks are still very young . |

Those are precovid contracts.
Idk about 8yrs maybe 6 but predict a bridge. So as to cash in big once cap rises. |

Not arguing but again a short list.
Our core…
Petey Demko Bo Boeser Hughes
-Pod still a wait & see.
All those winners had the D other than Pitt by committee. Our D is what makes us a lotto or bubble team. It’s a matter of who & when is added to the D before we can be a perennial PO team let alone contend. |

On VGK their offence was their achilles heal no different than the scare we gave them. A well built team with speed & D but choked. |

Managing the cap is all about layering. Drafting is the 1st component. Getting good C’s & D saves cap from not signing UFA’s for key pieces & use of ELC years if the pipeline is there. Most difficult to do with D & inevitable that only drafting them is not only time consuming but unlikely. |

Going hard at RHD UFA’s would be the best option. Need 2. Problem is the timing & cap space. Something ‘AGGRESSIVE’ is needed to be done whether over 1 or 2 years. This UFA crop has some pickins. Trading is an option but not deep in assets.
