It's scary to think that OEL numbers were worse than schmidts in Arizona, and every defenseman that comes here trends downward as far as performance goes.
Really hope Benning is smart enough to avoid paying anything for a declining and expensive "asset" - Codes1087

If his contract is insured it doesn't cost them anything. - LeftCoaster

I believe it has been discussed here before that it is not insured. - VANTEL
Nothings ever come out officially, to the best of my knowledge, although reports speculate it's not. With his concussion history it would be complete and gross mismanagement to not have it insured. So I can't see it not being insured. |

I don't know if it is or not, however, you can get insurance, like any other insurance it just costs you more because of past history. |

"OEL chatter at this point feels a lot more AZ-driven than anything.
Canucks source on today's notion of OEL for Schmidt: "that is not a thing."" |

It was Aquilini that had to decide to go without insurance. How stupid is FA if he lets Benning talk him into this sh it. |

How about Patrick Maroon, hey, three straight Stanley Cups. The guy looks like a beer leaguer out there and he's a three time Cup Champion. I wonder how many other plugs out there are multiple Cup winners.
I think Joey Kocur won three, so did guys like Craig Muni from the Oilers and Aaron Ward with Detroit and Carolina, they have more Cups than Mario Lemieux and Bobby Orr FFS, with Orr being the best player to ever play the game - LeftCoaster

Thanks Carol for stating reality.
"Jim Benning has promised to be aggressive, and the Canucks look poised to undergo a fairly significant makeover."
Been saying it for a while but there is the can't do and don't do crowd. If Canucks get their targets minds will be blown. |

You can be aggressive without being stupid.
We will see what Benning does and then can label it after. |

He's a really good defenceman, but, he's 30 years old next week and he's not going to be an 8.25 million dollar good dman for the next six years IMO.
Alex Edler used to be a really good defenceman too but his play has significantly declined over the past four years. He's still playing way too much and thats certainly contributed to that decline. |

Brian Burke once said GMs don't worry about years 5-6 , that's the next GMs problem.
The question is right now for the next four years if you were the GM would you want Schmidt or OEL ?
There is no confirmation that Canucks are even interested.

I'd be okay with trading for OEL if it was an "Arizona got bent over" trade.
OEL (50% retained) for LE, OJ, and a 4th
Arizona save money in the long term and get some assets back. Canucks replace Edler and their left side is set with OEL, Hughes, Rathbone
Would also inquire about adding Garland or Dvorak to the trade, though either might be a bit too much $$ for this years cap |

With us finally getting to the last year of LEs disastrous 6 year contract, I can't help but feel it would be repeating the same mistake if we were to acquire OEL. He has been really bad the last couple years, and 8.25 aav is gross. |

Oilers, Detroit, Minnesota only teams with just one. - manvanfan
Canucks with 3, same number as the Habs and Bolts |
