This is the best they'll ever do with this core. They are missing the elite talent to get to the next level.

If only they had the elite talent level............of the Leafs.

They should try to add some top end talent. Rangers never did in 2014 and 2015. poop fell apart for them. I think the isles address this

I hope Wahlstrom can be the top end wing for Barzal. Certainly will help in terms of the Cap. Very difficult to be able to trade or sign for top end talent. No question the Islanders can use more offense.

He's a good player, would have liked to have seen more of him this post season. That said, the problem starts and ends with the cap (ik captain obvious). For every contending team except for the lightning.

I guess the trick is to sign top end talent who is willing to stay injured until the playoffs.

Didn't the Rangers trade for Martin St. Louis? I guess the problem was that his career had previously peaked, but they did make an attempt.

I'm thinking Lou should go to the Top End Talent Store. Expensive, but worth it.

I see Casey signing a hometown deal, expose Leddy and Eberle to the Krack, buy out Clutterbuck and Uncle Leo if possible. Pellech is the real deal sign him to max 8yrs 4m per. Beau needs to be signed too trade Varly if possible to Laughs retain a bit of salary. Tough times ahead for Old man Lou.

That store will probably not be open to the Isles for two years.

Unless things change drastically with the Isles Cap situation, I think this is the year to run with Wally on the 1st line and Bellows on the 3rd with JGP.

Was that the problem? I thought the problem was that the Kings were a f'ing buzzsaw. Jk, we gave a lot for MSL.

St Louis was 38 and Rick Nash was a 60 point player. Never had any one to keep up with Crosby, Malkin, Kopitar, Kane, Hossa, Towes, at the time.

The Islanders just going 7 games against a team like Tampa is some feat. Outside of Barzal. The Islanders do not have a lot of players that scare you offensively. The Ranger team back then and this Islander team are very similar. Very good in goal and defense but offensively challenged.

100%. Nash was our go to like barzal (barzal better tho) Built very similar but trotz is a better coach than AV. Funny they both lost to Tampa in 7 too. And shutout. The cap will make things interesting next year for Tampa tho. Definitely going to lose someone

Yeah, I don't remember the exact timing of the trade, but I was responding to a post that the Rangers didn't try to add talent. I was thinking they did try, but they did so by adding an aging MSL. He was still pretty good, but not quite the player he had been. And yes, I think they gave up too much. Was Stralman part of that trade? I always liked him, thought he was a bit underrated.

Kings won 2 Cups in 3 years. That pretty much passes for a dynasty in the Cap era.

Nope, they let Stralman walk as a UFA, another of Sather's brilliant moves. He signed with Tampa for a very reasonable deal and the the d-corps took a dive.

Sather just went after the wrong talent always. Either past their prime or not the right player.

I'll take Kessel on the top line please and thanks especially if Arizona retains some salary. He can skate and rip it and I love that he's a fat turd that's amazing at hockey
