Why do so many of you ignore the obvious?

Islanders/Bolts is a war. Huge hits on every shift.

Canadiens/Vegas are pounding on one another. Both series are cage fights on ice.

All four teams have multiple players that play the body on every shift for every check.

It is not necessary for elite skill players like Matthews, Marner, Tavares or Nylander to be banging others. But you want players around them, especially on your 3rd and 4th lines and defensive pairings, that will punish the other teams high skilled players.

When you hit them you slow them down. Not on the first or the second or the third hit. Perhaps not even in the first game. But as the series grinds on the body absorbs huge punishment. If you punish the body enough, it will quit on you even though your head is telling you that you want to fight through it.

In the opening round series it was readily apparent through the first four games that the Leafs had more speed and skill than the Canadiens. But, in games 5, 6 and 7 Montreal seemed to get faster. The Leafs did not seem as quick. By game 7 it was apparent that the Canadiens had ground down the skill of the Leafs and most observers concluded that in the final game the skilled and speedy game of Leafs did not show up.

Crazy talk to want to trade Marner away. The problem is not the first or second line. The problem is the 3rd and 4th lines and the lack of jam on the defensive pairings.

Do you remember when the Senators came back from being down 4 goals in the 3rd period against the Leafs? Folks said it was embarrassing, unacceptable, it must never happen again. But, nobody stopped to ask why it did happen?

That game against the Sens was a precursor to the playoff series against Montreal. Remember the Canadiens had to come back to win 3 consecutive games, two on the road.

When team's come back against you, you need to stop and ask, what is the weakness that is being exploited? I can assure you, it is not Marner, Matthews, Tavares or Nylander.

OT shots were 13-2 and they played the first 15 mins of OT in the habs end..and lost...that hurts

It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Yes, leafs need to get a better collection of scrappy/competitive complimentary players.

Yes the Core 4/5 need to be better at "bearing down" when things get tough.

So to review:

-Sweet gm of the year Lou Lamoriello one win from Cup Final

- #LeafsForever one hole away from back 9

Followed the Leaf thread on Hockey Buzz for nearly 15 years. This is the most discouraged I have seen Leaf fans. But, the darkest part of night is just before the first light of dawn.

The Leafs are a very good team when it comes to top end skill. Don't make any changes to that part of the team.

They need to add some grit and character into the line up. The answer is not recycled vets. Does Dubas knows how to do that?

Matthews and Tkachuk are really good buddies. He wants out of Calgary and some NHL guy said Tkachuk for Tarasenko...since Tkachuk is from St. Louis

Is Marner for Tkachuk a better deal for Calgary?

Matthews could probably convince him to come play in Toronto, they would be awesome together. AWESOME.
