No, Dan Kelly. I know most Hawk fans only know Foley, but he doesn't hold a candle to Lloyd Petit, either on TV, or especially on radio,
- LAHawk

Thanks LA. The sad thing is I still watched or listened to every game Kelly announced in that period and I couldn't remember...

Yeah, Petit precedes my time. I started watching/listening when Foley was in the booth with Uncle Dale.

Now I'm pulling a Foley going off on a tangent, but I met him at some type of hockey show at Harper College in maybe 89 or 90 and he was one of the nicest celebrities ever. Took time to talk to me and my sister, got a picture with him. Really genuine about everything.

Going to miss everything except when he jinxes the Hawk's goalie's shutout bid with 7 minutes left to go in the 3rd or talks about how few goals Laine has scored.

I don't much see any reason to fear taking a goalie at #11.

If that is the best player, do it.

I don't see using a second round pick at a second tier of goalies.

Let's not treat Cossa like he is sticking around into the second either.
If he is slipping (SLIPPING? He may very well go first goalie in the class or close.) int the mid ranges of the first, there will be plenty of teams trying to trade to select him.

Forget what you read elsewhere:
There is a top 18 and both goalies are in it.

The idea that the NHL team scouting staffs are agreed on the ACTUAL players who they would take at one, two, three...is a fact this go around.
Since you are going to wait for all these kids and the fact that you can find chinks in each one's armor, means we may think their is a top tier of one, and second tier of more favorables, and third and fourth tier in that 18, but don't try and tell yourself the entire league has got their NHL future upside all sorted out.

Saying one more time: I think we will be surprised who gets picked in the top ten and who is still there, and taking the best guy might work out.

Wiz are either of these goalies that much better then last years pick?
I believe a top 6 forward is a bigger need unless one of the d- men drop

Are the Hawks likely to pick a goalie in the 1st or 2nd rounds after taking one in the 2nd last year? Or have they soured on him already?
- mohel
glove from him.

Some teams pick one each year.

I want to a better glove.

Having a choice means one more trade asset if he is more than a back-up.

I think the idea of choosing one early will start to become common place IF the goalie looks like one with high end attributes.

Grew up with Foley in the early 80s until present day. Not sure if we EVER got the same Foley that we were lucky enough to be blessed with until he went to the wolves, but that was the hey day. I know he and Dale had some memorable joking around, but those telecasts came across as those 2 just as emotionally invested in the outcome as the fans were. Foley lost some of that as time has gone on....

I get the need back in the mid 2000s to dumb down telecasts to attract new viewers and offer some of that cheesy Cub broadcasting with the 3:33 crap, but I really hope this organization finds us guys who can break down games on more educational basis vs than a grab ass basis. Show us more of the technical/system side of the game, faceoff plays, zone exists, PK coverage, PP set up.....we need a more "smarter" telecast.

The NBC Eddie O at times will joke, but is more zeroed in on a professional banter vs the NBCSN Chicago Eddie O who is 180 degrees different. There is a way to harness both sides like a Steve Stone type commentary where you appease the die hards but offer some homerism/banter for the general fan.

If the Hawks were smart they would move Foley to the radio and kick John Weiderman to the curb and let foley and Murray go to town. Both deserve that.

Correct me if I am wrong but don't guys with NMCs are automatics to be kept UNLESS said player would be wiling to waive? So right of the bat.....Kane, Keith, Toews are all 100% kept.

Still hoping Seattle takes DeHaan. I don't see any purpose he serves and hopefully Seattle takes him for more of a veteran role. IF not, I need to check out the buyout ramifications but I would hope the Hawks would entertain that as well.

I don't see any major debates on who to keep vs who not to. Entirely different with a more aging veteran presence and the guys up for debate or more 3rd or 4th line guys who aren't overly valuable vs say a deeper Hawks roster of years past.

Entirely in the camp of drafting best player available. Organization still doesn't seem to have goaltender depth but I would be curious how many 1st round goalies from 11 on become main stays in the organization and not bounce around. More so of the mold of Price vs say Vrlamnov

Draft the best player available unless it a goalie foolishness at it's best .Yes we took a goalie last year in the 2nd but best not to have all your eggs in one basket .I like that Stan signed the Swedish kid and believe he will not take a goalie in the 1st rd this year . But you never know .

Although both are different animals I would say yes, and you don't have to worry about a Russian team signing them.

Askarov is a super-quick player. Sometimes reacts / moves too much.

Waldstadt is a chill start and doesn't show you his ability until he needs to.

Cossa is simply huge and able to be a giant with quickness and smarts, and maybe the first big guy who isn't a reach.

Agreed on Dan Kelly....

Those early Marty havlat years after the lockout with him and those HORRIFIC radio commercials...."marty Havlat is fast, but just keep him off.....the Dan Ryan. See Red.."

PTSD.

So are the Knights and the Avs the new version of the Canucks and Sharks? Good enough to dominate in the regular season and then just implode and choke come playoff time?

Vegas has no business being down 3-2 to Montreal. Superior players, across the board but just like San Jose, they just choke.

Series isn't over...but last night you could see guys air mailing the net trying to make perfect shots to beat Price. Think game 6 is a must win for Habs just as much for the KNights. I can't see Montreal beating vegas 3 times in Vegas for game 7.

I became a Hawks fan when Lloyd Pettit was doing the games, he’s my all time favorite. I liked Foley, he was awesome at one time, not so good lately, but as we age, who’s as good as they were in their younger years in any profession? I’m actually a Weiderman fan, I like his style. It will be interesting to see who they bring in.

Crevier was 6’0” when drafted into the QMJHL in 2017, 15 months later at the beginning of his first season in the “Q” he was 6”7”. He must look like Bambi on skates. It could take a while for him to refind his coordination.

Living in Canada I unfortunately never heard Petit or Foley until cable TV brought Blackhawk games up here. I did hear Dan Kelly on Sunday afternoon I think NBC broadcasts, I thought he was OK. The best I heard up here was Danny Gallivan and Foster and Bill Hewitt.

Well then.....didnt' catch that part.

Do they go old school where you get both the tv/radio as we once did with Foley and Talon and go Widerman and Murray?

I think Eddie O is destined to get back into coaching or management role. Not much sure there's much left for him to accomplish on the tv analyst side. Especially with NBC losing rights and possibly losing out on his derby spot for horse racing.

'de Haan just has this year left on his contract. No need to extend it. IF he can get back to playing his normal game, he could have value at the TDL plus the Hawks can even retain to help his value. If Seattle takes him, oh well.

The word on him is that he made tremendous progress this year and quite a few feel he has a very bright future. I can't recall where I saw but strangely, his skating remained pretty fluid despite his growth spurt and even got better as the season went on. Definitely a work in progress but his coach is really high on his future. Well, his old coach now.

That was gold as well......and the most uncomfortable call for him had to be when Karpotsev netted the game winner in game 1 in 2002 vs STL.....
