Not everyone needs to be 6'6, but would prefer more physical guys in the bottom 6 - PatC80
I don't really expect Dubas to do any of what I recommended. He'll likely sign a 12 year old Russian phenom who is 4"8 weighing 76 pounds who couldn't bench press a curtain rod. But he once scored 124 goals one year playing in the Siberian Yak peewee league so better sign him! |

In all seriousness, Bunting might be better suited to play LW on one of the top two lines, he's better offensively |

Bunting on the 4th line, doesn't make much sense. Not a physical guy, gets primarily o-zone starts and doesn't defend particularly well, but he can score goals - PatC80
Well the good news (Bad news?) Is that we also have two top 6 LW positions to fill as well.
If this guy can slot in one of those spots on the cheap, let's do it.

If they do go after Bunting, he's better on the wing with Matthews or Tavares.. |

Yeah. Bunting can do something Mikheyev can't do. Score goals. |

I'm still waiting for Mikheyev to break out.
The guy gets so many damn chances. If he would just finish a few of them, he would be a great value middle six forward.

I like everything about Mikheyev's game. His hustle especially. But he couldn't score in a half price hooker convention. |

I agree with the bolded.
Marner needing a power forward is the issue for me. For his money, he should need nothing. I would have the same issue with Nylander if he didn't show up in the playoffs too...and he has a much better Cap hit.
We need more fear-LESS players.
Sh1t, hate to say it but watching little Gallagher and Caulfield, even Suzuki and KawkYummy, just play hockey is annoying and very revealing at the same time.
Now is a good time to trade Rielly for assets, he's not a threat from the blueline or in front of our own net. Now the money starts to work out.
Let Hyman walk if he's looking for too much and then more money starts to work out.
Marner, Rielly, Hyman and Andersen opens up ~$25M (with Hyman's new Cap).
That money with whatever else we have, Kerfoot to Seattle and re-sign Foligino for a decent $, could re-tool this roster on the wings, D and 1B in a really nice way. JMHO. - underhill14
There's nothing wrong with putting together a mix of a power forward, shifty passer and scorer. That's a different not showing up or not being able to elevate his game. If Shanny and Dubas think it's the latter, move him. If it's a question of changing up how they play, then bring somebody in and keep the skill to play with them.

If he could finish he would be more valuable and probably have been a top prospect at one point

I need Roger to show up and tell me how the Leafs aren't in cap hell, everyone else is. - Leafs43
Whenever I think of the Leafs being in cap hell I remember to go look at Tampa's situation.
If we're in cap hell, they're in the 9th ring of it. |

Thats really the thing here. If teams can shut our key guys down our secondary scoring was brutal. We had too many that didnt contribute fully.
Miky is a good example. Offence sucked but work ethic and defensively good. At his cost though we need more from him. How much is the wrist injury/bad luck and how much is this is how he is?!
Engvall. Scored some goals but isn’t physical enough. That said has some speed and teams just did NOT like him.
Thornton was useless. So was Simmonds.
I’m curious though. Could Engvall play with JT and Nylander? Would he produce enough? He will go to the front of the net. Big body screen. And fast enough to keep up.
Gallagher on a cheap 1mil in with Brooks and Spezza 4th line could be trouble for teams and produce too.
Means someone to replace Hyman up top and a new checking line. We’ve all kind of been tossing out Goodrow and Coleman there.
The chance to reshape the team is there. The real question is what Dubas is going to do/looking at doing at this point. |

I think they can also offer 8 year deals during that window. |

Killorn, Cirelli, Johnson, Gourde, Palat.
I think 2 of the above are moved but they have m-ntc which makes it a little tougher to do.
They do that, they'll be ok.
edit: don't forget they'll have 7,875,000 towards LTIR |

Perry has been an absolute warrior all year and an amazing influence on all our young players to boot.
Hell you can see Anderson, Kotkaniemi and others trying out some of his moves out there, it's pretty amazing. - Scabeh
Is that who he learned to hack and slash from?
TV coverage between periods was showing Anderson's new confidence in physical play. Coincidentally they show a lot of stick-work.

Negotiations starting at 9.9 million too. I think.
Without the pandmeic I'd imagine he'd be in the 11 million range long term. |

He is TWO out of a few reasons...
1. He's afraid to play playoff hockey
2. HIS TENPOINTNINEMILLION DOLLAR CAP HIT.
Matthews deserves better. - underhill14
Matthews should have stepped up in the final 3 games.

The devil we know.
Kerfoot bothers some in here but not me. He works his ass off and can fill in up and down the line up in C or W. Lose Kerfoot and put Foligno there if he signs a team friendly deal.
His $ sucks but also thought Seattle might work that out for us and if so then I would worry about replacing him after.
Micheyev lost his touch, forever I don't know. Do you? He is great on the PK and his speed backs off the defense...he's useful and cheap and if he finds his scoring touch again, could be a 're-found wallet'. Galchenyuk is close to league minimum and I like what I've seen from him as he tries to turn his career around. Maybe he finds his 30g/season self. Maybe.
Finally, I don't think it's reasonable to dismantle the 'entire' team and expect immediate results.
I think adding 2 Dmen and a couple of strong wingers...losing as many old/weak players as possible... will go a VERY LONG way in 'tweaking' this roster for playoff success NEXT season.
While I enjoy your continual mental jizz fest in posting the negative side to my posts only, why don't you submit some suggestions of your own using that infinite wisdom and knowledge of everything.
I'm sure your suggestions will be exactly what the team needs.
Then we can just talk about how great your suggestions are and get excited about next season when Dubas does exactly that.
