So is everyone else’s cap disadvantage. Doesn’t matter where the extra cap is...all that matters is that it is there.
That’s how math works. - Santo_44
Name another team that has effectively handicapped half of their salary to 4 players, Santo.
Do you understand that math? It doesn't seem like you do. |

That's another thing. Given that the Leafs were so close to eliminating the Habs... does this mean Dubas stays the course? The fact that Montreal is doing so well make him believe not much is needed? Injuries to Tavares and Muzzin aren't excuses. This played a huge part in the result.
Or does the fact that Toronto won 3 games without Tavares and still lost 3 in a row show Dubas that change is needed? It feels like the Leafs are at a crossroads in the Shanaplan. Which road does Dubas take? Blow it up Avenue? Stay the course Boulevard? Or Tweak and Tinker Road? - gergeswillems
He doesn’t stay the course but I’m pretty sure the gang here will be disappointed |

He’s only looking at the numbers, and is refusing to put them in context.
Pittsburgh spent nearly 50% of the cap on 4 players. Just like with Tampa: 2 forwards, 1 Dman, and 1 goalie. |

Ken Holland always said this. There's not much separating teams. You just have to get in (the Playoffs) and you can go on a run and win it (The Cup). It's partially true. Looking at what Montreal is doing. You make your own breaks. You're more "lucky" if you're playing hard.
But if Tampa wins the Cup again is it because of talent or luck? Even the 98 Cup winning Red Wings needed Esa Tikkanen to miss a wide open net in game 2 to win that game. - gergeswillems
That's why I don't like when people say during the season "team isn't as good as Colorado so might as well trade guys, collect assets, no point in the playoffs!"
Just get in.

It doesn’t matter.
The cap adds to 81.5.
It all adds up and it doesn’t matter how. You went to school right ?

The other half has no dead weight.
Meanwhile other teams who have won cups do...now add that dead weight to the top 4 of their teams...adds up now doesn’t it?
Simple math instead of irrational complaining. |

No one says poop when the Caps win with a 6th D man in Orpik making 6 million.
But Marner is overpaid by 1.5M? BLOW IT UP |

Tavares goes on LTIR next fall ...Leafs spend his 11M wisely ....Tavares returns for Game 1 of the playoffs. Boom! |

I do so love he old chestnut, "Marner is only overpaid by a few million". As if those few million mean nothing in a cap hell world. |

Nah. They should keep doing the same thing that keeps failing. Because they *could* be the first team to win that way. |

Boy I didn't every say that.
I just want to know which of the 4 current models of success Dubas should follow. Isles, Habs, Lightning or G'Knights? |

I don't quite buy the whole plucky team creating their own luck argument. The Habs have been absolutely fortuitous in their luck with gifts from the hockey gods:
1st round: No Tavares. Braindead plays by Chucky and Dermott.
2nd round: Scheifele suspended
3rd round: Fleury braindead play in OT.
Ultimately though, the great equalizer for a lot of these Cinderella teams is simply the difference in how games are managed in the playoffs by the officials. You don't need a "sledgehammer" line in the regular season but, for some reason, you do in the post-season. - mjones242
With the pattern you had, why not for 3rd round - "Stephenson elbowed in the head - braindead"

There is nothing "irrational" about my "complaining" *criticism*. You may think your smug assessment of my opinion carries weight but it does not.
The Leafs have given half of their salary to 4 forwards who have never been able to replicate their regular season success nor advanced them past the first (or qualifying) round.
As per the "other half has no dead weight" argument, are you serious? It'd be nice if the Leafs were able to overpay for some actual impact players in their bottom 6. |

There we go ..why do 1 thing when you can do 4!
Step 1. Place JT on LTIR and bring him back for the p'offs (the TB)
Step 2. Hire Trotz (the Isles)
Step 3. Pick up Price with all that new found Cap Space (the Habs)
Step 4. Sign Reaves, wear golden helmets, and get a fancy pre-game production (the G'Knights)
