That Marner contract sucks. Boo on you, Dubas. |

This is the leafs you’re talking about. They started trading players too soon back in the sixties. Only to watch said players go on to have great careers. It’s way too soon to trade Marner. - shack67
It’s not about his playoff failures over the past 3 years (although that is a part of it). The way the team is built with their salary structure is unsustainable. It would’ve been difficult even with the salary cap rising like it was predicted to. But it’s not rising for the next 4 or 5 years. The economics of the NHL changed, so should the plan they had.
If Marner had signed a 3x7 bridge deal, I would be saying to keep him for at least another year. But he wanted his money, and now the Leafs are stuck between a rock and my love for Nylander. |

True, and Marner is the second highest cap hit of any winger in the NHL. Breadman is the top cap hit.

Five years of making the playoffs and not getting past the first round is not too soon. What if they miss the playoffs next year? Are you good with that? Too much money tied up in 4 forwards. You can't run a team like that. You can't let a good grit player walk because you can't afford him. The Leafs have smaller skill players with the Marlies and in Russia, that can play that roll as a skilled winger. What we don't have is tenacity and grit, mixed with skill up front. The Leafs can't compete with the Bruins, Lightning, Habs and Panthers in the Atlantic. Ottawa will also be competitive next year. They have to make a significant impact move and Marner fits the bill. Too much cap, non playoff performer. Get it done!

Ha Ha. I just have this fear that trading him will be another punch line that other fans will use to ridicule us for the next 20 years.
I would swap him for Eichel in a heartbeat though. I want a star for star trade, none of these stupid packages. |

The idiot leafs Managment have to get rid of Dubas the Dufuss. After he goes get rid of Marner And Tavares android start fresh get rid of the the rest of the ballerinas and some playoff grit and size and get rid of Simmons a no show when you needed him
Mathews I’d a star that can’t play playoff hockey consider trading him as well

Eichel is intriguing, move Tavares to the wing. His cap hit is slightly smaller, but they may have to sweeten the deal, due to the uncertainty of the Eichel's neck injury. Maybe retain $2M to make this deal workable. Then we can afford Hyman.

Honestly, would rather trade McSpastic backpass limpd!ckplayoffs and his $10.9. Pisses me off even more when I see him on every other commercial on TV. (frank) him, (frank) his agent, (frank) his dad for ripping the Leafs off.
Instead of the $9.6 million bonus he will get this year, I'd give him this:

I like Engvall on 3c or 4c, he just hasn’t had anyone to play with most of the time.
He had Hyman for a few games and they were dynamite. |

He's a good skater that couldn't score or hit if his life depended on it. If he learned how to hit, I would be ok with him, but at 6'5" hit someone FFS.

Don't know what it is with him but he seems to get the other team pissed at him and off their game naturally. If he put some muscle on and developed a mean side he'd be real valuable. |

Agree. Better temper our enthusiasm for a bit.
Like just try to make the play-offs first next year.
That'll be a major accomplishment. Seriously, if few changes are made, then no way. |

Honestly there’s a few fringe and players that need upgrading on. Looking at it Reilly, Holl, and Dermott on the back end. Mik and Engvall. Kerfoot likely goes expansion. I think really can manage the core but one of the five got to go aylt the least and that’s Reilly.
To really balance it though its one of Nylander/Marner clearly but….
Have to wait and see what they have up their sleeve. Really Dubas doesnt leak much, and they tend to set things up and wouldn’t be surprised they already have ongoing talks and or something going to happen before the draft. |

He has to play safe as to not get benched.
I think he’s got a great shot just doesn’t get to use it often, this happens when Mikey blasts down the wing and then does sweet fuxk all with it.
I’m not saying he’s a top 6 guy, not that he gets any chances to show it anyways.
Scores 4 in 5 and then gets sat for Nash 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻 |

Cap will go up after next season, isn't a new tv deal starting and the arenas will be full. |
