Well isn't it Marner's fault that his only weapon is a "pass"?
You know....since he's afraid of getting hit and doesn't have a NHL level shot and can't get into the dirty areas.
Matthews gets a lot easier to contain when he's the only threat on the ice. That's not how it's suppose to be when your line mate makes $10.9M.
And maybe, just maybe, it would be easier to add a few more threats if we had $10.9M to give to a player or players that don't poop themselves during the playoffs so the focus wasn't solely on Matthews.
Maybe. - underhill14
All good points..
Maybe, Matthews would have had an easier time if the Jake Allen was starting?

Afraid to get hit?
He played terrible, has nothing to do with being afraid. I watch “afraid to get hit” and it doesn’t really describe Marner TBH
Well, if we can't start to agree on that clip, obvious clip....we're fu3ked.
If you don't think that's shying away then it's no wonder we're on a different page about Marner.
I've watched every other series. That kinda play is non-existent in NHL PLAYOFF HOCKEY.
PS...there were quite a few more of those by Marner too. - underhill14
If you want to discuss it, he looks over his shoulder thinking the puck is coming around faster then it was. But I’m sure whatever way you want to look at it you can find away to explain it.

Just to be clear, the over the glass play is not an example of him messing up due to fear.
As I mention above, there are many other examples though. I'll see if I can dig any out.

Don’t mess with the cliches. Every player who put a puck over the glass is a coward. - Canada Cup
Marner was accessed two puck over the glass infractions during the 2018 series against the Boston Bruins, one in Game 2 and one in Game 6. He took another one in Game 5 against the Bruins in 2019. In 2020, Marner had a tripping call against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Now, he has two puck over the glass calls in 2021. Marner sat in the sin bin for 20 minutes during 55 games this season. He now has four minutes in just six playoff games in 2020-21.
The process of getting better at any craft or task, is learning from your mistakes. As a player that has taken 7 minor penalties in the playoffs 6 of them over the glass type, it seems the learning from mistakes is not doing well in this case. If you take a penalty, personally I would much rather that at least one opponent is limping just a little rather than this avoidable, sucky type of penalty.
Marner played like a scared little 14 yr B!tch. That is my opinion.
Jumping out of the way of body contact, trying to make crazy turns to avoid contact and giving the puck away. Willie only hit one person in the past 5 years and it was Price in Game fukcin 6. Then scared little boy flips the puck into row (frank)in 14....
Marner has lost me as a fan until he is gone, or proves that he can play in the second season. Do not give a fiddlers (frank) if he gets 150 points in regular Pond hockey season next yr...
