You really think the defence was the problem against Montreal? Leading scorers: Nylander, Spezza, Muzzin. Anything seem wrong with that picture?
- Canada Cup

Absolutely, it was definitely the main issue, but if you can upgrade at a position you do it. The defense still isnt contender level. They need a top dman. Id move players around to get Hamilton or take a chance on Jones.

Hamilton is a pipe dream, great if Leafs can get it done. Hard to imagine significant changes in approach when Leafs being one of the teams that can afford to spend big outside of the cap have a dollar store coaching and scouting staff

Just need to trade Marner and Rielly. Very easily traded players.
And don't pay more than 3.5 for Hyman.

Reilly has LNTC I think

Edit: Yes, 10 teams no trade plus he is a UFA next year

Marner + Rielly for Hamilton (signed 8 years at 8.5per) + Necas + Yegor "The Weginald Special" Korshkov + 1st 2021 + Conditional 1st 2034 if Marner ever scores a playoff goal during the rest of his career

They can easily get it done if they want to. Trading Reilly is one option for example, but there are numerous ways to get it done. I doubt Dubas does it though.

Shocking that some team without cap problems and with real needs on defence might go hard after him.

Hamilton UFA Likely about $8.5 to $9.0 M (could be more) plus $1M for extra roster spot

Trade Marner and Rielly - frees up $15.8 Million - So these two have to be traded for picks and players with total of $5.8 M cap hit or less (including any retained Marner salary if required) - Big ask IMO unless leafs make a 1992 Calgary to Toronto trade type of deal.

It's ok, Nighthawk is a Nucks version of Roger Ramjet. On the Nucks Blog he has Hyman penciled in at $3.5 M per year for 5 years signing with the Nucks. I am fairly sure that the first team that Hyman wants to sign for at a discount is the team that finished dead last in the North.

But he's only here to talk hockey

He does also get to choose where he goes....if they want to fit him, and he wants to come, then they can make it work fairly easily.

the coach doesnt play the games.
Its the players, players that the GM trades for, drafts or signs
The Coach can only do so much.
Never take the next step?
They went from not being the playoffs for a while to always being in the playoffs and only a few wins away from the cup final.
they are so many steps ahead of the leafs its not even funny
Again, if the leafs were having the same success the Isles have had, youd be jerking all over here with how great theyve done, how great dubas is blah blah blah.

- Fakepartofme

True, but what is it the coach does though besides being a cheerleader?
Is it teaching? (not really evident here, not many have advanced as expected)
Is it getting the most out of what talent you have? (colossal failure here)

Ya all marners fault. not hard to figure out how to defend when marner has one option to pass too. no one on point that can get the puck through!? only option is mathews.
- aziffles

Well isn't it Marner's fault that his only weapon is a "pass"?

You know....since he's afraid of getting hit and doesn't have a NHL level shot and can't get into the dirty areas.

Matthews gets a lot easier to contain when he's the only threat on the ice. That's not how it's suppose to be when your line mate makes $10.9M.

And maybe, just maybe, it would be easier to add a few more threats if we had $10.9M to give to a player or players that don't poop themselves during the playoffs so the focus wasn't solely on Matthews.

Maybe.

Sure they can make it work if they want to create enough holes or not fill any existing holes. I just don’t think a $3.5M upgrade on Rielly is the biggest priority.

Not significant enough to spend that much more agreed.

The poll was taken before the playoffs started.

If anything I'm surprised he didn't get more votes.

Agree, Loui Eriksson signed one of the most team friendly deals in history. He's scored a whopping 90 points over the last 5 seasons for the Nucks for a total of $30M cap hit. That's $1/3 Million per point. What a deal! Enjoy trollchie.

He’s definitely held us back on long playoff runs. Off the books soon enough. Spend it on gamers not golfers.
