Yeah but if Hyman re-signs with the Leafs he'll be loved once again. Cheer for the laundry. If he leaves then he's too old and washed up. Great move by Dubas not keeping his overpaid a$$.
- gergeswillems

Normally I would agree.
But this only rings true if he signs here for the same cash or no more than 4m per.
He stays and signs for anything more than that...he wont be loved too much
BINGO!

Cool, hurry up and sign him so people can stop talking about getting him for the leafs
- Fakepartofme

my big brain theory is that they're letting him talk to other teams now so that there's less temptation to hold out and look for a better deal if they both hold off on signing until after the expansion draft.

Yup. A bridge is something that Marner should have been signed to.

Instead, Dubas must have felt like 10.9 was going to be a steal as the cap steadily grew.

Not only was it a terrible gamble to think a playmaking winger would ever be a bargain at (frank)ing 10.9M but he should not have caved into offering a contract that walks that player right into UFA.

Even if you think he's overpaid by 1.5M (and I think you're being very (frank)ing generous here), that doesn't erase the reality of the horrible management of assets that we're currently stuck with. 1.5M represents quite a bit of flexibility being more than double the cap (prior to this coming season) that the team can't advantage of.

I would take Anderson over The Entit1e6 One all day
- Steven_Seagull

Oh FFS no you wouldnt.
Jesus.

At 5.5 per...he had 24pts this season...currently has 1pt these playoffs
Had 4pts in 26 games the previous season and has whopping 9pts in 34 playoff games.

He would be crucified in Toronto.
but please dont pretend you'd take marner over him....even with the 5m cap space.

- Steven_Seagull

Pts wise....it doesnt look good at all.

He was 4th in the scoring race this year. I think that’s the kind of production Dubas was envisioning when he signed him.

Are points the most important thing though?

I mean Wendel Clark was not a point per game player, and I challenge you to find a Leafs that doesn't love Wendel Clark

9.5M? Nope. Brayden Point signed a bridge contract for 6.75M 10 days after. They had very comparable numbers the year prior.

Why the (frank) is Marner any more than 7.5M?

We are living in a mistake right now as he's getting paid 10.9M to do well in the regular season and then disappear in the post-season.

I'm not happy that we're stuck in Groundhog Day with this core. Something has to give and Marner's obscene contract is glaringly awful.

- mjones242

Cause Lou screwed him on his entry level deal.

Lou should've given some bonus money but didn't do it.

The flat cap makes this team look so much worse.
When the kids signed, everyone thought we'd have a cap of 85 - 87 million now.
Instead we are at 81.5.
It sucks....but its the hockey gods way....they dont like the leafs.

No it could not.

Tavares has put 1st line numbers up

Anderson has not

19 goals in his last 91 games.

29 points in his last 91 games.

Thats not even (frank)ing close to being worth 5.5 M.

- Santo_44

Over the course of the season, he played at a 25 goal pace.

Pretty much what was expected.

Oh and that physical play too. That speed! THOSE LOCKS!
